An interesting and readable collection of Zeppelin lore., December 3, 1998

This review is from: The Zeppelin Reader: Stories, Poems, and Songs from the Age Of Airships (Paperback)
It is difficult for anyone born after 1930 to feel the awe and wonder generated by seeing a giant, rigid, lighter-than-aircraft floating high above, with motors purring and passengers waving at we mortals down below.Today's blimps are pale gas bags compared to those floating behemoths which first appeared before the turn of the century and disappeared with the destruction of the HINDENBURG. This readable collection of Zeppelin lore tries to capture this excitement by documented accounts, fiction, music and poetry. Collectors of aviation history will recognize many familiar names such as Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin, Ernst Lehmann, Hugo Eckner, and Lincoln Elsworth. Those more literary or musically inclined will enjoy impressions by D. H. Lawrence, Robinson Jeffers, Kay Boyle, and Leadbelly. All together it is an interesting readable volume for those interested in a bygone era, as well as a volume aviation enthusiasts should be interested in collecting. Its only drawback is its rather high price for a soft cover book.
