“I work in digital media publishing, yet I’ve struggled, like most of the business world, to understand how to make social media work for me. Sarah-Jayne and Dean tackled the challenge with an energy that has to be seen to be believed. These two are now my #1 source of information and have provided simple and effective strategies that have helped me to monetize social media.”

—Vince Holton, Publisher, Incisor.TV

“A fantastic, timely, and enjoyable book with serious appeal. Great work from beginning to end. I can’t recommend it enough.”

—2morrowKnight, Huffington Post

Zero to 100,000: Social Media Tips and Tricks for Small Businesses makes it so easy to understand the way to successfully take your business into the ‘real world’ of social media! It both entertained and educated me. I would recommend this book to my friends, business associates, and to educational institutions. Brilliantly done!”

—Debra Cincioni, @MomsofAmerica on Twitter

“From building a bigger presence for yourself or your business, this book gets you in on the ground floor, lays the foundation, and helps you get a jump start on becoming a social media success. And the advice is real, not just from Sarah-Jayne and Dean, who are awesome, but from several other success stories they explain in the book. In a word, this book is useful.”

—Jason Falls, CEO of Social Media Explorer and author of No Bullshit Social Media: The All-Business, No-Hype Guide to Social Media Marketing

“Leveraging social media is vital for businesses of all sizes, but it is a quirky and nuanced world where getting it wrong can have disastrous consequences. @GrattonGirl is one of the people I see in the social space who really understands the art of communicating with her audience. If you want to know how to connect with the crowd effectively through social media, I can think of no one better to hold your hand on that journey than Sarah-Jayne and Dean Gratton.”

—Kate Russell, Technology Reporter, BBC Website and App Reviewer

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay for the Beginner February 19, 2012
Format:Paperback
I had included this book in my 2012 Book Goals because I understood that it was a quick read, helpful in regards to learning which social media platforms would be best for me as a blogger, and informative on how I could use those platforms to promote my blog. In each of those ways, I suppose this book did not disappoint.

The Gratton's introduce several of the popular social media forms out there: Facebook, Twitter,YouTube, LinkedIn and Foursquare. They also touch upon StumbleUpon, Digg, and several social media tracking systems including TweetDeck, PeerIndex, and Sprout Social. However, much of what they share is geared toward the social media beginner so if you've had any experience with these social media forms at all then this book is probably not for you. Even so, I did happen to fill two large post-it notes with ideas which I look forward to implementing over the next few months.

With a total of 194 pages, many with medium to large fonts, this book is a breeze to read through in a couple of hours. The Gratton's use common every day language to explain several technical aspects of these social media platforms, making it easier to understand how to start using these media forms as well as why you might want to use to them in your business.

One major disappoint I found in this book was the chapter placement. For instance, in Chapter 1, they introduce 3 social media gurus that they don't expound on until Chapter 20 when they interview 5 social media gurus (not 3) again repeating the bios found in Chapter 1. Another example would be how they chose jump back and forth between media forms.

There are lots of books out there about how to succeed with social media in the corporate world, but this one is targeted to the underserved small business community. It's a practical, how-to guide packed with lots of interesting visual examples. I've recommended it to all my friends and social media contacts who own or work at small businesses.

This book could have been written in 25 pages. It does not add much value and is written for a middle school student. Not recommended.
