The release was very choppy and the metal line inside the scoop which is supposed to release the food doesn't even move all the way and I only used it one time!!

After much research, I discovered the Item 2040, size 40, Orchid color, 40mm diameter, .71oz fluid capacity, and .74oz weight was the right one for me.

This scoop works great and looks great, too.

I'm posting mostly because there wasn't sufficient size information when I bought mine. (I was judging by the picture and figured I'd use it for cookie dough or a melon baller if it was smaller than I was hoping.) This is a Zeroll size 16, which is 2.25" in diameter (57mm). It appears that the Zeroll scoops are color coded... if you go to the Zeroll website (just add dot com), you'll see, for example, that the white is a 3" diameter scoop, and orange is 1-3/16".

These seem to be designed for commercial use and amusingly come with instructions for "how to get more profit" by dispensing even scoops of ice cream. I think the commercial design bodes well for a long lifetime for this.

Note: These are not clearly dishwasher safe.

So I ordered all the small dishers available on Amazon. Sure, I'm nuts, but I have Amazon Prime, so the shipping was free. Anyway, I thought you all might like to see my analysis of them.

I added a picture of the scoops and the balls they created to the item, see the alternate pictures. The balls are made out of quite firm, straight from the refrigerator whipped white chocolate ganache. There are two scoops shown for each disher. On the left is a scoop leveled off with a knife, to the right is a slightly rounded "natural" scoop. The Orange Zeroll scoop produced ganache balls of 6-8 grams, Burgundy produced scoops of 13-22 grams.

(see picture) I also bought the Norpro Stainless Steel Scoop, 25MM (1.5 Teaspoon) and am keeping that, as I really wanted a very small scoop. The next smallest is also the most expensive, the smaller of the two Zeroll (the Orange one). I think the larger two, the Oxo and the Adcraft would be best for cookies or small meatballs, but if you like a larger truffle, they could be used for that too. The Oxo Good Grips Small Cookie Scoop has the most comfortable handle to use of all of them. It produced ganache balls of 14-19 grams.

I returned the Zeroll scoops. The plastic handle was awkward to scoop very stiff batter with, it felt cheap.

For years I've used two stainless steel scoops for cookie-baking. One regular sized scoop and one comparably sized (i.e. jumbo cookie-sized) to the black-handled Zeroll. The stainless ones have been the bain of my cookie-baking in that the metal-toothed gear at the bottom of the handle would frequently "jump the tracks" and leave the inner ring hanging outside the scoop. Several minutes and a stout kitchen knife would then be needed to pry the teeth back in alignment. No more will that be necessary - these scoops work flawlessly. They scoop through stiff batters and release the dough smoothly with no wailing or knashing of teeth - mine or the scoop's.

This is the perfect cookie scoop I've been searching for. Just the right size for crowd pleasing, beautiful cookies. The design makes for easy clean up - no places for bits to get stuck.

I had a very difficult time determining which size would be appropriate for what I wanted to do so I thought I would provide some more information for others in the same boat. It seems as though Zeroll does not measure capacity in the same way as other brands (or at least Amazon's description is vague) and this can be very confusing when you are trying to compare sizes and prices between brands.

I was looking for a cookie scoop that would make average to smaller sized cookies. I normally make them for kids so I wanted them to be around 3 inches in diameter once cooked. It is hard to gauge this by the measurements the website provides. I also wanted a scoop that was about the size of a mini muffin to make moving batter from the bowl to a mini muffin pan a little less messy.

Most brands will label a size for a scoop from 6-100. Zeroll does too, it just isn't in the description. After much research, I discovered the Item 2040, size 40, Orchid color, 40mm diameter, .71oz fluid capacity, and .74oz weight was the right one for me. It is the perfect size for cookies. Today I used it for pancakes too. Again, I tend to make them smaller for the kids so it worked out fine.

The biggest retailer in the world sells a knock-off in-store for much cheaper. It has the same design so if money is an issue than perhaps check that one out first.

The Zeroll scoops are excellent, well made and can be used for many things.I use them for cookie dough, meat balls, candymaking, portion control, batter and ice cream. The Zeroll scoops are made in the U.K. from quality ingredients and come in sizes from very small to extra large-[.71OZ-2.78OZ]-they have different coloured handles for easy I.D.. They are very easy to clean and are "NSF APPROVED". This scoop is the best that I have found at the price. If you are in the market for one or a set, try one of these I think you will be pleased!

I have 4 of the Zeroll spring-loaded scoops recommended by the King Arthur group. I love them.

The one I've used the most for big cookies & small cupcakes is the black one #2030 which scoops a 2 Tbsp amount. The spring action is easy to use even through my hands are a bit arthritic now. It scoops 'clean' & is easy to clean too.

I don't know why I waited so many years to buy this incredible convenience to baking.

I just ordered the #2024 (red, 3 Tbsp/45ml) so the size muffins I'm baking correspond to the recommended size in 750 Best Muffins by Camilla Saulsbury. I've enjoyed the 3 recipes I've tried so far but they're too small using the 2T. scooper.

I rarely give 5 stars to anything - I think these scoops are a great item!
