We've got it about a month ago. My kids are still playing with zhu zhu pets every day. Amazing! They are having great fun!
We started with funhouse and one hamster, and end up building the whole city.
My little one even sleeps with one of them, so we had to take batteries out of Nugget.
I recommended this toy to all my friends with kids from 3 to 8 y.o.

This is such a cute toy! Sure, the plastic isn't of the highest quality, but children enjoy the set and the original retail price is very reasonable. The funhouse, which is really the base for the entire Zhu Zhu world, consists of two circular rooms and a "hallway" (or tunnel) which connects them. The tunnel has grooves on it that cause the hamster to make various sounds... doorbell/knocking sounds for the bedroom and splashing/gurgling sounds for the bathroom. The floor is printed with images of blankets, hamster food, a sink, and other such essentials. Our little one loves to pretend that she is giving the hamster a bath or tucking it into bed.

The little hamster that comes with the set, Patches, is very sweet and cuddly. She FLEW across our hardwood floor once we changed the batteries, so keep in mind that the original batteries are really for store use only, and don't be alarmed if your hamster seems a little sluggish; a new set of batteries will perk it right up. You really only need one hamster to enjoy the set, but it's hysterical to put in two or more at the same time - they'll bounce off of each other and chatter together. Best of all, a simple press to the hamster's back turns it off. Try that with a real pet!

I hope no one is actually going to pay so much for this toy, which I bought for $20 at Wal-mart. Retailers, it is morally wrong to overcharge people this much for a toy that retails at $20.

The toy itself works well with a functioning Zhu Zhu Pet. Note I qualified that sentence with the word "functioning," as Zhu Zhu Pets should probably be called Zhu Zhu Lemmings, such is their tendency toward self-destruction. Within 30 seconds of firing this thing up, my child's Zhu Zhu pet rolled into the crack between the refrigerator and the wall and then turned the corner. My husband and I pulled the refrigerator out and liberated the pet from the dust bunnies. Five minutes later I found it trying to escape out of the dog's water bowl. I took it apart to let it dry, and it thankfully continued to work. Until my kid put it in her hair TWICE. The hair locking around the wheels did some damage to the rolling mechanism, but unfortunately did NOT damage the little thing's voicebox. So it rolls around in a lopsided way screaming GO GO GO even though it can only kind of waddle, and my kid has a frickin Dennis-the-Menace style chunk out of the back of her head. I paid $8 for that hamster, and if I'd have paid $40 online for it, I don't think I'd be able to live with myself today.
