Picked up two of these guys the other day (this was my second) since they happened to be in the store and I happened to be in the store. A little bit of background first: I'm a 26 year-old collector of many things including robotic pets. I've tried out Furbys, Micropets, Neopets, Scoozie pets, Petal-chi, Mutsu, Fureal Friends, and more so I consider myself a bit of an expert on the subject. To start with, these things eat batteries, have triple A's on hand. Second, I don't have any playsets, I'm just testing the hamsters. Upon opening and removing this little guy I tried out "cuddle mode", which was a little disappointing. The hamster will lie still and make cute noises every few seconds or so but he isn't really responding to anything. "Try me mode" is when the hamster is off but you can push his nose to hear a random noise, not a lot of fun there. Now play mode, that's where the fun is. The wheels are fast and the grip is really strong, I promptly put it on my boyfriend to see if it would climb up his shirt and it did, hit the back of the couch, made a springy noise and ran back down. Even he cracked up at it. It tackles carpet and all hard surfaces no problem, and makes a ton of different noises, some 40 in all, and each of the four designs sounds unique!. You have to be careful around stairs but all in all it does what it was made to do and cheaply at that. At normal retail they're cheaper than most action figures. (I got mine at normal retail and I suggest you wait until you can too. If you have kids and can't find them try giving a cute IOU written from the hamster saying how it will come to live with your child after X-mas. They have a guarantee from you, you have a kid who still has something to look forward to after December. All is well.) Remember these are for ages 3 and up and have motorized parts. It says in the instruction to supervise your child, so do so. Risk is probably minimal but if you have a kid you wouldn't give a RC car to then they're probably too little for these. So to wrap up Good: Funny and varied sounds, cheap, cute, runs fast and randomly, fascinates my dog! Bad: Hard to find (for now), eats batteries (2 AAA), can pinch, can be broken with a moderate impact. Have a hamster good day!

I purchased this for my 6 year old granddaughter who really loved it. After a few days it stopped working and even new batteries would not make it run. As usual, wildly popular toys seem to be made in a shoddy manner, breaking soon after purchase. Too bad these Zhu Zhu pets are so defective as they appear fun to play with (not much educational value.

First of all, I was shocked at how much these cost on here but soon realized it's not Amazon, but vendors trying to take advantage of the demand for Zhu Zhu Pets. It's the Wii story all over again and once again, I'm not putting out more than what these usually cost. I got my daughter Num Nums at Wal-Mart for 1/4 what one would cost me here right now. I think I'll wait!Anyway, the Zhu Zhu Pets are a great toy for my 4 year old who wanted a hamster and good for me too, seeing that I do not want a smelly rodent to clean up after. They're cute and I love the names. But seriously, they are not worth $32. Wait until demand has slowed and pay the $8 that Wal-Mart is charging when they're in stock!

I bought this for 26.00 online for my 7 year old who Really Wanted One!!! Well, there's a reason they retail for 9.99 at Toys are us and Walmart, that's about what they are worth....It's kinda cute, reminds me of Easter Toys (the cheap kind) you put in their baskets. She played with it for all about 30 seconds - now it's my dog's. If you really have to have one, I'd wait till after X-mas when you can get them for what they really are worth!

I got up early and was able to get Zhu Zhu Pets hamsters at WalMart. So glad because I know they are selling out stores because I've been calling everywhere.Anyway, my kids have been playing with them all day. And then hair got wrapped around the little wheel and I thought one had broke so I spent forever trying to get the hair off -- but that's not what was making an additional squealing noise and making the wheels stop turning. The little Zhu Zhu pets hamsters just needed new batteries. They came with 2 AAA batteries from the manufacturer -- and I'm sure they weren't in the store that long so that little hands could've worn out the batteries thru the "try me" window. They must've just come with batteries not as good as the ones I changed them into. Because I just popped in some Duracel or whatever batteries -- and now the Zhu Zhu Pets run even faster than when we first bought them this morning. My children are playing with them as I write. Now we want all the Zhu Zhu pets in the collection -- and the accessories. Maybe by Christmas or before...

These toys don't work. They get stuck constantly, the plastic tubes are cheap and break very easily. My child got very frustrated and bored quickly. Don't waste your money.

This little guy is cute . the price was a robbery. Lost interest quickly because NUM NUM kept turning on his side and not rolling in his ball. Ball hard to put together. the wheels pinch little fingers not unlike a real hampster. Unless your child is just begging forthis save your $$$$. At $9.95 it is ok no more.

The vendors that are selling these toys for outrageous prices should be ashamed! This is a kids toy and parents are not able to find them because people are buying them up to resell at a profit. I was able to get all of the hamsters and accessories that I needed at retail prices by staying ahead of the scalpers at WalMart. The store associates say that they will stock shelves with 24 Funhouses at midnight and that one person will come in and buy every one of them before 7 am. This is just wrong. Do not support vendors who raise the prices in this difficult economy. I hate to think that these people with no scruples will have a prosperous Christmas while depriving kids whose parents can not find them or are smart enough not to pay an a ridiculous price for an [...] toy.

I guess these are flying off the shelves in some places & online. I had no problem buying my son three & could have bought more. I bought the gray, brown & yellow ones. Of course now he wants the white. He told me that they make different colored ones now like pink????? Okay....LOL. Oh & the ball too.I think the negative reviews are to warn parents about how much these are retailed to sell for so that they don't get ripped off. I wouldn't know how much it cost if I didn't read the reviews so I am glad someone posted them.

I am a 13 year old using my Mother`s account to write this review.I know the age demographic is between the ages of 4-8(or somewhere around there), but I really wanted one since they looked so cute. I got one on ebay for a little more than the retail(I wouldn`t buy them from Amazon at this time of year). When I opened her, I tried out cuddle mode first. The noises are really cute, though some are a little odd. For example, some noises are a cow mooing and a rooster crowing. Even though I think the noises are somewhat random, I can see how they would appeal to a 6 year old. Adventure mode is neat. I set her on the floor, and she started exploring. It was really fun to watch, especially since she recognizes when she bumps into something and changes direction on her own. I think you would have a better time watching Zhu Zhu if you changed the room that they are in, because it can get a little droll after awhile watching them go over and over. I don`t have any playsets for her, but I`m sure it would be more entertaining to watch her if I did. Overall, I think that Zhu Zhu pets are really cute, but I wouldn`t pay five times the price for them. |
