I bought this item in the secondary market (like most parents) but from a pretty decent website that does not price gauge that much...
[...] for those interested.

It's an awesome little toy. I think I play more with it than my son! I have it on my desk and on the floor playing with it all the time... It's so much fun. And then the cat in the house is chasing it as well.

The price is steep but I highly recommend it, for kids or even for Adults.... ha ha.

The Zhu Zhu Pets may not be educational, but my daughter really loves these and they are really fun. They are much better on hardwood than on carpet. Try not to let them get hair or fibers in those spinning wheels. These are really cute and I don't know one kid that doesn't like them. My daughter's friends and cousins are all very absorbed in them when they play with them.

Also, since I couldn't find this information prior to buying one, I thought I'd share this: you CAN change the batteries. You need a screwdriver to open the compartment on their underside and replace the battery when a Zhu Zhu is getting "sluggish" or just won't turn on anymore.

This was a birthday present that was a big hit for my brother, he loved it.

Bought this for my next door neighbor for Christmas. It reacts to the music and sounds from her computer and ipod. She just happens to be 66 years old, and totally okay in her mind. But there's a child in all of us, and this Zhu Zhu is precious and always brings a smile to my face even to think of it. She still keeps it next to her computer and says that, although she doesn't always think about it, as soon as there is appropriate sound from the computer, it makes her smile when it begins to move. Can't beat something that makes us smile!

My kids each received 2 of these for Christmas gifts this year! They are having a blast running them all around in an open area like the kitchen floor! They have also used our waffle blocks to build little race tracks and habitats for play on carpeted areas. My only complaint would be that they require a lot of AAA batteries. But, they are getting a lot of play time.

Yes, these are cute, but this toy stopped working right away. And it wasn't the batteries. :( I don't know if I just received a dud or what, but I guess you just have to take that chance if you really want this toy!

Zhu Zhu Pets Hamster Toy - Winkie brought for the cat. The cat was first afraid, than played with but learned to knock over. Works well and is still working.

I am a 4th grade teacher. I have ten girls in my class. One of the items they put on their list for gifts was Zhu Zhu pet. So I purchased one for each girl. They loved it. Thank for getting my order to me in time. The look on their faces was priceless.

This was our first zhu zhu and he worked for a day before he stopped moving forward. Now we say Winkie's legs are broken. Something stripped in the cheap plastic gears. I'd recommend one of the other pets in the zhu zhu line... Maybe the rock stars or battle hamsters. Something that isn't first generation. We haven't had a problem with any of the others and they're all newer.

Ours is of a different color but... it's a battery-powered hamster that makes cute sounds if you touch her nose and makes cute sounds and runs in a random pattern if you touch a certain spot on her back - make sure it does not run on a table because it's likely to fall.

For some reason, little girls up to 8 years old love this toy. In fact, my 7 yr. old is crazy about it - she saw one at a friends of hers and she begged me to get hers, counting the days until delivery. Now, that she has her own Zhu Zhu, she's happy and this is all that matters.
