I read a poor review on this product and I regret not taking the reviewer's advice as it was right on. The product takes a alot of monking around to set it up and then although it does make a nice straight line you still need tape. Also, if you have a popcorn ceiling it doesn't have a smooth edge to work from. Then having to purchase refill to use it on another project?, well, just not worth it. I agree with the review I didn't listen to....."don't bother."

I bought this at the hardware store with the orange sign because the one with the blue sign didn't carry it. I thought it was another cheap, unusable tool before I used it. I even felt guilty falling for their little trap (on the package it said it's designed for women). The promise of using no tape, once again, got me to buy this little gadget...even though I've purchased at least 10 different products for the same purpose, to no avail. I'm not pro-tape. My hand isn't steady enough to paint ceiling edges even with the best Purdy brushes.
The roller I bought at the depot was the same as it is here on Amazon, but it didn't have a nifty little tray thing, just a cheap throwaway paint tray which worked great. I used this to paint the top of my walls, edging the ceilings. I was going from a bright teal to a muted mocha color, and it took 2 coats to cover it up. The way this product works: there is a button on the top that you push in order to cause the sides of the paint roller to extend past the roller itself. You fit the roller into the loaded paint tray, making sure the edges hang over the sides while you load the paint roller. This process ensures no paint gets on the sides, thus marring your ceiling or corner with unwanted paint. Then you snap the sides back into place, and start roll'n. Note: there is a metal (as shown in the picture) and a plastic side (not shown) to the paint roller. The metal side works best for getting the paint closest to the edge you are painting. A neat little trick is a lever underneath the paint rollers shaft. When pushed you can pivot the paint roller while using it, allowing for a further reach while standing on a fixed surface like a stool, chair, or pile of laundry. The paint rollers themselves pick up just the right amount of paint, so none squirms out and underneath the edges like with all the other edging tools I have bought. My only complaints are: the construction is cheap and rickety. It almost felt like it would fall apart in my hands at times, though it did not. Also, it is nearly impossible to clean these little rollers, and it is best to just buy new ones. The tip is closed off, so you can't screw a paint pole in there. Darn. But I give it five starts because: This little tool saved me so much time and hassle, and ended the procrastination I was living in at the thought of having to tape all my ceilings. It deserves a long, detailed review and I will buy refills and use it again and again, because I love repainting (I guess).

Zibra Ege-n-Roll Pro & Con,

I tested this tool on a smooth painted surface where 2 walls adjoin, and also against some trim which was not caulked first.
I did take the time to read the instructions thoroughly which was good or I would not have noticed some of the features this tool has. Here are the PROs and CONs I came up with: PRO: tray configuration makes it easy to load correctly. PRO: holds quite a bit of paint for the roller size. PRO: did OK against the trim in a small area where a larger based edger would not have worked. PRO: handle can be turned around 180 degrees which is convenient PRO: is faster than cutting in by hand. CON: the bumps on the shield make a dark scratch on the wall where the shield touches. CON: the line was not consistent, sometimes very good and sometimes got up on the trim in a very noticeable way. I had to be very careful. CON: I thought cleanup of the tray was not too convenient because of the springs inside. PRO or CON: the rollers are for one use only and then you throw them away and they go into the landfill. I suggest that if you are going to use this tool with trim, caulk first.
