5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this instead of the OTC meds
I'm what I call a chronic victim of allergies. I'm allergic to just about everything and there are multiple allergens in every season that affect me. You name an Over the Counter (OTC) allergy medicine and I've probably tried it...my favorite ones are the OTC meds with the "D" designation, meaning they have Decongestant in them. You usually buy these behind the counter...

1.0 out of 5 stars No Rest for the Weary, Especially During Allergy Season
I read the numerous glowing reviews & figured if they are having such luck I should try it. I'm from Ky, where we have one of the world's most notable bad allergy seasons. This one especially because of the unusually heavy rain we've endured. I have to assume everyone else that had a glowing review must live someplace else, because these little "magical wands" did nothing...

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this instead of the OTC meds, April 8, 2010
This review is from: Zicam Allergy Relief Gel Swabs, 20-Count Box (Health and Beauty)
You usually buy these behind the counter because the D ingredient is Psuedophederine which is a controlled substance. Want to take a test? If you're taking "<medicine> D", the next time you go to the pharmacy, ask them for plain ol' Pseudophedrine. I bet you'll feel the same as when you were taking it with the allergy med. The fact is that for a lot of people these OTC allergy meds either don't work, or their body builds up a tolerance to them over time and the slowly stop working. I'm one of those people. For me, I have to take 3 to 4x the recommended dose of an OTC allergy med to see any benefit. I'm not comfortable doing that. Many prescription allergy meds don't work either. The few that do are nasal sprays and tend to give me nose bleeds.

I tried Zicam Allergy Relief out of desperation more than anything else. I'm a true believer of Zicam Cold Remedy but I didn't see how a natural product could help with allergies. I did not notice much the first couple times I used it, but by the 3rd or 4th day, I felt dramatically better. No more constantly stuff nose, burning nasal passages, and burning or watering eyes. I've been using it for almost 4 weeks now and I've had some days where I was just miserable, but for the most part I've felt great as long as I've stuck to the dosing instructions. Two of the days I've had my allergies flare up were because I missed doses. Don't miss the doses!

I am not going to tell you it will cure your allergies 100% because it didn't for me, but I would say about 90% of the time I've felt great, even outdoors while everything is pollinating like crazy right now. Given that OTC and most prescriptions do very little for me, I'll buy Zicam over that stuff any day of the week as long as it keeps working.

From a chronic victim of allergies - this is NOT snake oil. It works. Give it a shot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magic medicine sticks!, March 9, 2009
I've had bad allergies my whole life - the kind where the whole inside of your head itches and your eyes feel like they'd be better off in your pocket than your face? But allergy medicine, even the so-called "non-drowsy" varieties like Claritin, make me tired, heavy-headed and crabby. Benadryl knocks me out completely.

I almost didn't try Zicam because of the price, but one day when I got accosted by a bunch of ragweed and it felt like fire ants were crawling up my throat to build nests in my eye sockets, I bought both Zicam and Benadryl, figuring if the first didn't work, I'd give up on the day's plans and take the second. It seriously changed my life. Nothing has ever worked as fast for me, and the bit of menthol is sort of like a tiny dose of hope for the relieve to come. And on top of that, it doesn't make me even a little bit drowsy. It makes it so going outside is bearable, and actually leaves me the energy to do it! I am in love with this stuff.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great product, April 14, 2011

I don't use prescription medications unless I am dying, so I was happy to find a homeopathic product that actually works. It doesn't take away 100% of symptoms (I still have a slightly stuffy head), but it lets me get through the day without feeling like I want to shoot myself. Great product!

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW., March 14, 2011

I may be writing this review a bit prematurely, b/c my allergies just started and I'm on my first dose of this stuff. But WOW. Immediate relief. That tingling feeling of constantly having to sneeze (and the constant sneezing) instantly stopped. Even if this provides SOME relief I'll be happy. I used to take Zyrtec and it worked amazingly well, but I have a benign heart arrythmia and Zyrtec made my heart race and skip like crazy - my doctor said to stop using it. I've just been sucking it up and suffering every spring since I went off the Zyrtec.

So glad I found this stuff.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly effective, and this is NOT the zinc cold remedy, June 7, 2010
This review is from: Zicam Allergy Relief Gel Swabs, 20-Count Box (Health and Beauty)
All kinds of confusion about this stuff because all their various remedies are called "Zicam...something or other." So no, it's NOT the old Zicam zinc cold formula. There's NO zinc in it. I also share some of the well-founded skepticism about homeopathy, but I tried this years ago out of desperation with sinus headache and Summer nasal allergies. I was surprised at the immediate relief I got from this stuff. Maybe it's just the gel base that is blocking the pollen, or something else in it...it just works.

Cooling gel formula that calms my swollen irritated nasal passages and helps me breathe again. These swabs provide nasal allergy relief without side effects. This is NOT the same Zicam product that was causing problems in some people and taken off the store shelves. Using Zicam Allergy Relief Gel Swabs + a Neti pot have improved my chronic allergies 100% for the better. No more trips to the allergist!

I'm a bit of a germophobe so I like that these are individually, securely packed. You can grab a few to pack for the weekend, have some in your desk drawer. They help soothe & lubricate sensitive nostrils, so you're less likely to get that cold-related nosebleed. (I've had them.) Great product.

1.0 out of 5 stars No Rest for the Weary, Especially During Allergy Season, May 12, 2011
This review is from: Zicam Allergy Relief Gel Swabs, 20-Count Box (Health and Beauty)
I read the numerous glowing reviews & figured if they are having such luck I should try it. I'm from Ky, where we have one of the world's most notable bad allergy seasons. This one especially because of the unusually heavy rain we've endured. I have to assume everyone else that had a glowing review must live someplace else, because these little "magical wands" did nothing for me. Every year I get a serious allergy attack when the tree pollen comes out to play. It's a hellish week long battle of snotty wetness, sleeplessness, and a chapped face from all the nose blowing. Every year I end up developing a sinus infection related to my allergy relief failing to slake the snot BEFORE an infection sets in & the clear funk turns to a thick awful yellow mess. This year, in hopes of avoiding that, (and a trip to the doctor where I cuss them out for giving or suggesting me stuff that makes it worse before it's better), I decided to try something new & different. These overpriced swabs are pretty much useless. They just add to the already existing watery wetness that is otherwise streaming out of my face. At the very least its a very expensive way to condition my tender mucus membranes, but I could use petroleum jelly for that & it would be vastly cheaper & equally effective. I haven't slept well in two days & these failed to give me any relief whatsoever. And for those of you who suggest I should give them more time to work, exactly how long should one wait for relief? I would say after a day something should show improvement. This failed miserably.

I'm not a doctor, and can't give any advice about night-time nasal congestion and dry nasal passages. All I can say is that Zicam has offered me relief from difficult breathing at night, and my wife relief from my snoring.....
