So I just came back from MN - with what I think is the super bug of all bug viruses. I have not felt this sick since 1996. Runny nose, congestion, sore throat, cough, sneezing and a fever that would not quit. My whole body ached, my eyes and nose were red and I was miserable. The last 3 days I took about 8 different cold meds - the only thing that worked at all was the Nyquil I took at night. I asked around to my staff and co-workers and one of them swore by this stuff. I've used homeopathy before - we were able to use it to clear one of my daughter's ears from ear infections when she was little after 18 months of antibiotics made her system completely wonky. So I'm already inclined to believe it enough to give a chance.

I started yesterday and after several doses (every 3 hours) I woke up today and it feels like the cold is on its way out. No fever, nose is not bad, cough's gone as is the sneezing. Body aches are gone. It's amazing. This is the only med I'm taking and based on the way I felt yesterday the cold had dug in for a long haul. I cannot believe the difference. Literally overnight I feel about 80% better.

I can't speak for others...and the taste of this is sort of like the old children's aspirin's but more chalky. Frankly it could taste way worse and I'd still use it. For me this stuff is like liquid gold.

I like this product a lot. It cuts the duration of colds for me.
I've used it for years. The zinc competes the rhino virus for receptor sites. Lowering the viral load makes sense to me. It's safe and effective.

I took this product within the first few hours of symptoms and continued to take them until 48 hours after they subsided. The duration of the cold was not shortened at all. In fact, I believe it made my sore throat even worse (it also has a terrible, nauseating acidic taste). I suppose that you must have to take it the moment your throat begins tickling for it to have any effect, if it even works at all. Several studies have shown that zinc isn't that helpful in treating colds. I have decided to just save the $20 and suffer quietly until the cold goes away.

My wife is a bigger fan of this product than I am and swears it helps her avoid colds if she takes it at the first symptoms. I have to admit it seems as if it is helping when I take it when the first symptoms of a cold appear; I usually supplement it with extra vitamin C around 1 gram every three hours along with the tablet and that generally reverses the symptoms within 24 hours.

What prompted my review was I mentioned the beginnings of a sore throat yesterday afternoon to my wife and she immediately brought her bottle of Zicam "Rapid Melts" to me and told me to start taking them every 3 hours with extra vitamin C and this morning my throat feels completely normal.

I cannot conclusively say this improvement was the results of taking Zicam but I'm reasonably sure it didn't hurt. I rarely have colds and sore throats so when I start developing those symptoms I'm very interested in taking whatever steps that might be available to stop them in their tracks. This time that combination seemed to work.

I might add we always have a bottle of these tablets around the house for just such emergencies.

I am a BzzAgent, and was sent samples of this product. I passed it around to friends at work, and one reported that she was feeling badly, took the Zicam, and then never got sick. I did hear one complaint about the taste.

I went looking for the cold/flu Zicam, which is an effective mix of common antihistamines, decongestants, etc., and purchased this pricey zinc supplement/ FDA-recalled product by mistake. Zinc doesn't usually help: see the Mayo Clinic's advice if you like. At any rate, be sure to check the ingredients to see if this is the Zicam that you're looking for. Caveat emptor.
