The price is great ( I think you get what you paid for), but I was expecting the white paint o be more glossy, and maybe a little bit better package...I received the item one day after it was expected (it was expected to be delivered on dec 23rd but i recv' on dec 24th...phew...)

I borrowed my friend's Travis Barker sticks a while back and they felt really good. I'm a fan of heavier sticks with round tips. I liked the coating as it gave me a better grip for my skin.. which really sweats! However it looks like Zildjian have changed the coating on these sticks.. Before it was more shiny, and gave excellent grip if your hands were dry, but got slippery as your hands start sweating. The new coating, albeit still white, is more of a 'matte' finish, and although a little bit less grippy with dry hands, the grip maintains and slightly improves with increased hand moisture.
So if you need to play loud, solid rock drumming, I would recommend these sticks. However, that's not to say they're no good for lighter, jazzy playing. The build quality appears to be good. My current playing involves a lot of snare rim shots. Every stick is going to start to develop 'splits' where the stick strikes the rim.. however it looks like the wood is strong enough in these sticks to prevent a quicker-than-you-would-like shear across this split region. Of course some of the white coating comes off on your cymbals, but who really cares about that. Edit: I've decided to edit this review as my recent experience with these sticks was not good. Firstly, I've realized that no, the white coating does not help the grip when the hands become sweaty. It makes the grip far worse. The sticks were constantly slipping out of my hands and my playing quality reduced substantially. My solution to this was to use sandpaper to sand off the coating, after which the sticks had good grip! Secondly, I'm not as happy with the durability of the sticks since a large chunk of wood split off one stick about half-way down where the splits had developed from rimshots. |
