4.0 out of 5 stars Story of a woman's struggle for self-determination, May 21, 2003

This review is from: Zinat [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is a story of a young woman living in a rural part of Iran. She has been trained to be the village doctor and loves her job. Her family is nagging her to marry, but the fiance and his mother don't want Zinat to work after they are married. Zinat knows that if she marries, there will be no medical care for the people of her village, so she keeps putting off her marriage. Finally her father beats her and locks her in her room to keep her from going back to the clinic. Will Zinat marry? Will she be able to go back to work? What will happen to the people of her village? This film features colorful locations and costumes, and an interesting, although somewhat soapy story.
