The elastic bands that draw the arrow back will crack and snap just like an old rubber band. Michael Scheder  |  12 reviewers made a similar statement

1.0 out of 5 stars Deteriorated after two months July 9, 2011
By Kymmie
Durability: 1.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
We've had these bows and arrows for two months, and first of all, they are AMAZING. The kids and their dad have played with them several times and had lots of fun showing off their skills to friends and neighbors (and Mom!)

The only problem with these is that, for an over $20 toy, they wear out far too easily. After just two months of use, I think stretching the bands eventually just wore them out, because yesterday we went to grab them and with the first tug, the orange rubber band things disintegrated. Now both are completely broken. :(

After highly recommending these to my friends and family for their kids, I'm now changing my mind. The kids LOVED these, but I can't spend another $40 on them again.

Disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars So far, lots of fun November 17, 2010
Durability: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I usually don't like to buy things unless I can read a review first, so I was a little hesitant to let my 9 year old get this. But he's been looking for a bow and arrow set that he likes for several months, and he was sure this was the one. So far, it has exceeded his expectations (and mine). It is important to note that it operates more like a rubber band slingshot than an actual bow; you hook the little black projections on the front of the "arrow" onto the two black rubber bands on the bow and then you pull back on the tail of the arrow to stretch out the bands. He likes the fact that you don't have to worry about keeping the projectile level as you aim, like you do with a real bow and arrow. He (an athletic kid who is big for his age) has no problem pulling the arrow back far enough to launch the arrow completely across our decently-sized yard and then some; his more average 7 year old brother can't really pull it back hard enough to make the arrow do much. The arrow can have a ton of inertia; in the basement, shooting from about 25 feet the arrow hit the wall with an incredible thud and then bounced all the way back to where he was shooting from. The suction cup arrow worked great yesterday, although it seems to be loosing it's gripping ability already. He is complaining a little at this point that holding the bow is making a specific place on one of his fingers hurt; he has probably used it a total of a couple hours since we bought it about 36 hours ago. I do wonder just how long it will last before the rubber bands or the arrows become non-functional. Right now, he is having a blast with it. BTW, we got it for substantially less than list price at a warehouse club store.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great bow and they CAN be repaired March 4, 2013
By Tomas
It's obvious to everyone that this is a fun product and a great "nerf" style bow, but the complaint I hear the most is that they are not repairable if the tubing rots, breaks, or is cut. I recently picked up a rotten one at a second hand store, and found a way to disassemble it in order to replace the tubing.

At each end of the bow is a peg where the tubing is attached. These are attached to the bow with screws, which are hidden under small plastic caps, if you remove the cap (dig them out with something pointy) and the screw from the "inside" of the bow (the side where you place the arrow), you can remove the peg cover and see that the tubing is simply threaded through two holes in the peg. At this point it becomes a matter of simply removing the existing tubing and replacing it. You can thread the new tubing through the peg and tie a knot, replacing the peg cover is not necessary for the bow to function.
I purchased replacement tubing at a local medical supply store, but it's also available on amazon http://www.amazon.com/Macks-Lure-16-Inch-Surgical-Tubing/dp/B003CTO9GM/ref=pd_ybh_11 and various other places online, including scuba supply places.

I replaced my tubing with slightly thicker tubing and the arrows go even farther. This is a great toy, and the only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is that the grip is too slippery/plasticy to hold straight when firing the arrows at higher powers.

3.0 out of 5 stars More like a slingshot in the shape of the bow.
I bought this at a Bjs and it's advertised range is 125 feet. Comparing that to a non-modified nerf gun, that is massive. Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars Not sturdy enough
Pricey and doesn't hold up well to the rough play someone would expect a bow and arrow to receive. Think about it.
