From the Manufacturer

PAPERTIGER Wallcovering Scoring Tool perforates waterproof wallcoverings so remover solution can penetrate and resolubilize paste. PAPERTIGER's patented scoring disks open surface holes to let DIF penetrate and attack the paste. In 1985, Zinsser introduced a tool that answered the need for a better way to perforate waterproof wallcoverings. This wallcovering tool, called PAPERTIGER, was as revolutionary an advance in its field as DIF was in remover solutions. With PAPERTIGER, scoring became faster, easier and safer for both worker and wall.

Great tool to help with a very tough job of removing wallpaper. The Zinsser 2986 PaperScraper Wallpaper Remover and Wall Scraper Tool is a MUST to go along with this product as it lies flat on the wall, parallel to the wallpaper to help remove it without damaging the hardboard.

I would recommend this product to anyone stripping wallpaper. I stripped part of a wall without this, and without a steamer and it was horrible. I purchased both and it went so much better. For people who haven't stripped paper, don't press very hard using this tool or you will destroy your drywall and cause more work than needed.

Make sure to have each step in place to get results. Spraying water will be disappointing but allowing the enzyme spray to do its stuff over some wait time is truly amazing! Once the paste has been moistened & released, scrapers easily pass under the paper to unfold plain wall. Keep applying from sprayer until ALL PASTE IS GONE ! (Leaving any paste will insure the wall is gritty & that will insure that paint can't be smooth). Once all paste is gone & wall is wiped (I use large sponge) with water while checking with open hand that no patches of paste remain is key. that will lead you to a wall ready for smooth painted wall or new wallpaper.
Of course, if the wall needs repair, has been damaged by water or ?, this is the right time to do those repairs. Because this surface is down to either plaster or drywall, primer is essential (if painted wall is your destination). I'm aware that some paint now includes primer but I have no experience with it. If stains exist on your walls, use stainblock of some sort( various brands exist)
Finish your walls & be happy that you did it with your trusty paper tiger! My daughter bought her 1st home that had 3 layers of very old wallpaper to dismiss- use of Zinsser triple head paper tiger is now part of family lore with lots of fun (& tired times) but wonderful stories of teamwork & achievement. The entire house was soon done - every room painted in this very old house that became charming-fast becoming her fine home. Using TRIPLE HEAD PAPER TIGER by Zinsser is key to that success.

After about a dozen or so vids on wallpaper removal, I decided to try out the Zinsser to help remodel the Den. At first I used it on a section that would be covered by a large computer desk and was very happy with the initial results. After applying the adhesive remover (50/50 mixture of a brand name liquid fabric softener and water) I could tell that it had penetrated the layer of old wallpaper down to the former painted surface.

One bit of advice. When it says you don't need to apply any pressure to the tool, make sure you don't. Let it glide against the wallpaper. I pressed a little too hard on the surface and you could see the marks. I had to go over the area with Spackle but I was able to finish the rest of the wallpapered area with very little pressure on the knob.

As an experiment, I also applied the adhesive remover to a 4'x4' square without scoring and it took about 3x as long to let the solution sit before I was able to remove the wallpaper. The scoring tool made it so much easier and only had to let the mixture sit for about 15-20 minutes.

They make a single head version, but if you're doing a room that is more than 12 feet in any direction, the triple head will make it much faster.

There's no easy way to take wallpaper down. It all depends on how the glue was originally applied and how it's held up to now. Try taking an area down before buying tools to help. Some of mine came down with just a tug, the rest required constant wetting, surgical swipes with a flat blade (extendable x-acto), and elbow grease scrubbing. Perforating with this tool just made the areas that would come down more willingly split into smaller pieces, creating more work for me. Yay.

I was excited when this arrived today. I immediately took it out of the package and tried it.

Total failure.

The spiked wheels are too close to the plastic part, and even when applying no pressure, they get stuck on the plastic and do not roll at all.

I cannot see any way to reassemble them to work, so I am returning immediately.

I'm very disappointed!

I had been using the 'regular', single head Zinsser Paper Tiger scoring tool to help in removing wallpaper from a living room; plus I've used it plenty in the past. It always left me so tired, as the effort needed to make enough 'holes' in the wallpaper meant quite a workout for both arms. I kept thinking, there had to be an easier way!

Did a bit of research and that's when I discovered Zinsser had the Triple Head Paper Tiger scoring tool, for sale through Amazon; so I ordered it. Put it to work right after receiving it, to score more wallpaper.

Oh my goodness! It was a HUGE improvement, in my opinion. I could score a large area of wallpaper without getting tired, as it covered so much more area with each pass, so to speak. I already knew to keep the pressure light and steady, so have never had any issues with harming the drywall.

By the way, I realize there are different kinds of wallpaper, and some come off easier than others. Mine is from the late 70's or early 80's, and after some trial and error, this method worked best for me: I used a clean paint brush to apply hot water to the top layer, quickly followed with some DIF gel wallpaper remover, applied with a small foam roller (DIF alone didn't seem to work that well). After waiting about 15 minutes, I could usually get off most or all of the top layer.

Then I applied a bit more water to the under layer, and carefully scraped it all off. For me, a Zinsser scraper has never worked well; always felt awkward. However, I have great results with a small flexible putty knife, works great.
