Of course, if the wall needs repair, has been damaged by water or ?, this is the right time to do those repairs. Because this surface is down to either plaster or drywall, primer is essential (if painted wall is your destination). I'm aware that some paint now includes primer but I have no experience with it. If stains exist on your walls, use stainblock of some sort( various brands exist)
Finish your walls & be happy that you did it with your trusty paper tiger! My daughter bought her 1st home that had 3 layers of very old wallpaper to dismiss- use of Zinsser triple head paper tiger is now part of family lore with lots of fun (& tired times) but wonderful stories of teamwork & achievement. The entire house was soon done - every room painted in this very old house that became charming-fast becoming her fine home. Using TRIPLE HEAD PAPER TIGER by Zinsser is key to that success.
One bit of advice. When it says you don't need to apply any pressure to the tool, make sure you don't. Let it glide against the wallpaper. I pressed a little too hard on the surface and you could see the marks. I had to go over the area with Spackle but I was able to finish the rest of the wallpapered area with very little pressure on the knob.
As an experiment, I also applied the adhesive remover to a 4'x4' square without scoring and it took about 3x as long to let the solution sit before I was able to remove the wallpaper. The scoring tool made it so much easier and only had to let the mixture sit for about 15-20 minutes.
They make a single head version, but if you're doing a room that is more than 12 feet in any direction, the triple head will make it much faster.
The spiked wheels are too close to the plastic part, and even when applying no pressure, they get stuck on the plastic and do not roll at all.
I cannot see any way to reassemble them to work, so I am returning immediately.
I'm very disappointed!
Did a bit of research and that's when I discovered Zinsser had the Triple Head Paper Tiger scoring tool, for sale through Amazon; so I ordered it. Put it to work right after receiving it, to score more wallpaper.
Oh my goodness! It was a HUGE improvement, in my opinion. I could score a large area of wallpaper without getting tired, as it covered so much more area with each pass, so to speak. I already knew to keep the pressure light and steady, so have never had any issues with harming the drywall.
By the way, I realize there are different kinds of wallpaper, and some come off easier than others. Mine is from the late 70's or early 80's, and after some trial and error, this method worked best for me: I used a clean paint brush to apply hot water to the top layer, quickly followed with some DIF gel wallpaper remover, applied with a small foam roller (DIF alone didn't seem to work that well). After waiting about 15 minutes, I could usually get off most or all of the top layer.
Then I applied a bit more water to the under layer, and carefully scraped it all off. For me, a Zinsser scraper has never worked well; always felt awkward. However, I have great results with a small flexible putty knife, works great.
