Zion...Zionoco - dream and reality, December 9, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Zionoco: Roman (Dutch Edition)
Leon de Winter is a master of intelligent entertainment. His style is witty, entertaining and the turns of his stories are unpredictable. Zionoco is a story about the star-rabbi at a large Jewish Reform Congregation in New York. Married to his wealthy and powerful wife (and mother-in-law)he is leading a pleasant life, full of short encounters, giving nice sermons, yet somewhat dissatisfied with the lack of reality in his life, a lack of passion and meaning. Things start to change after his passions are aroused by a young dancer, while roughly at the same time he upsets parts of the orthodox community through an insulting newspaper article. From this point on his life becomes a wild ride, turning upside down and inside out and while he is reconnecting with the memory of his dead father, a former rabbi, he slowly but surely moves closer to his own place in life, real or imagined.
After reading this book I immediately read all the others, one by one. The books are too much fun to miss!
