I am a field trial person too and I love setters. I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. I recommend this book to anyone who loves trials, pointing dogs, etc. I have already loaned my book out to friends who are dying to read it.

Mr. Gaddis does a masterful job of weaving a very colorful and true to life story about a litter of English setter puppies and all the potential and heartaches associated with raising them, training them, conditioning them and competing with them in an all out effort to win a championship among his amateur peers! It is a book I found very hard to put down once I picked it up and started reading it! Enjoy it and may God bless you with many wonderful days afield as you enjoy His creation behind a classy English setter!

I have lost count of the birddog books, stories and training, that I have subjected myself to over the years. But it is Zip Zap, which I have appreciated the most. Why? Mr Gaddis is so refreshingly frank and honest in this book. How many bird dog authors willing attest to the days when their dogs do more wrong than good, which we all know only too well can happen!! How many would attest to the under currents and human frailties of high class field trial participation.
His easy reading style of descriptive writing almost has you able to smell the autumn breezes, to sense the wind that the dogs are scenting, to feel the angst of a lost or hurt dog and to know the loss of a beloved fourlegged companion who has been with you through thick and thin. Dispersed throughout are training examples which make sense!

I hated finishing this book. I looked forward to reading every page. I am an ol field trailer and certainly could relate, but anyone would enjoy this book because of the excellent writing style of Gaddis. The book brought home the great memories of my wonderful(now gone)hunting companions. This book touched me deeply!!
