Product Description

Socialites, party hosts, and cocktail lovers can remove beautiful ribbons of citrus peel for classy and creative food and drink decor with the Zip Zester. Designed to remove the zest or outermost layer of a citrus peel at a rapid pace as well as produce cocktail twists and garnishes in seconds, this tool offers efficiency and showmanship for Chefs and Mixologists both in the commercial industry, as well as at home. Zest a lime, lemon, orange, or grapefruit in seconds without the bitter pith and annoyance that hand tools present. Fabricated from industrial glass filled nylon, it features a thumb button that moves the shaft back quickly and easily. The included microblade is designed to be used with fresh clean fruit and offers small flaky zest perfect for baked goods, dressings, vinaigrettes, whipped creams, jams, jelly, and desserts. Recommended for thick skinned fruits, the included Big Twist Blade offers thick strands every time in just a matter of seconds, unlike a traditional channel knife. Both blades are designed to last for 3000+ uses and are NSF certified, and the arm tension is adjustable with a wheel. Backed by a manufacturer's one year warranty, it also includes a removable stainless steel bowl to catch zest and garnishes, as well as a 100 pound suction base for steady performance. Whether it's a zesty edge on the classic wedge or a lemon twist for the Martini glass, the Zip Zester makes you the artist while it does the work.

Easy to use and sturdy.

The instructions advise that the arm not be locked open when not in use, arguably because this will sag the plastic spring.

It makes such perfect little spirals of zest, so easy.

The Stainless bowl is nice.

The included micro-blade barely skims the surface of lemons (low yield). Spiral scrape too course - The screw pitch is too steep
The holding a skewer often puts as much juice in the bowl as does one pass with the micro-blade. (skewers too bulky)

The blade-holding arm is pushed onto the fruit by a plastic spring. (plastic?) The instructions advise that the arm not be locked open when not in use, arguably because this will sag the plastic spring. (this is not commercial-grade design.) Furthermore, the spring lockout lever is very short (horrible ergonomics).

The suction-cup mount hold-time is surface dependent.

I bought this specifically to make candied citrus peel. While the zester blade works as advertised, the peeler blade still removes too much of the pith along with the peel (some times all the way down to the fruit), making for bitter candied peels. I haven't decided whether to return it yet, going to give it a few more days to try it out.

I purchased the Zip Zester when it was first offered some time ago and found that it did exactly what it was meant to. The tool made quick work of processing lots of fruit, produced consistent results and saved time. Because of my positive experience with my original Zip Zester, I decided to buy a second one. A mistake to say the least. I'm not sure what happened, but the "new version" is a cheap "knock-off" of the first one I purchased. The construction is shoddy, what used to be a sturdy stainless steel turning rod and forks are now, it seems, chromed metal. The tension wheel is useless if the citrus is on the small side; I found myself holding the arm against the fruit to maintain contact. The blades are less effective than the original. They used to be very similar to the Microplane Blades, not anymore. With the fine zest blade i had to run the fruit through the process 2-3 times and the results were still less than I would expect. Someone turned a quality tool into a late night infomercial joke.

first off, there is no mention of which blades are included - if you need the microblade, you'll have to order that separately. once you zest, it leaves a good 15-20% of the zest behind, as it is impossible to get to the beginning and end of the citrus. it works decently for large fruits, but is useless for small ones. results in lots of juice mixing in with the zest.

My husband really enjoys the Zip Zester. I bought if for him as a birthday gift. The stainless steel bowl is thin and most of the parts are plastic. From what I saw on the videos and pictures, it looked like a better made product. It does work well and does the job quickly. I hope it can withstand the test of time and use.

I am going to have to call the company again. Sometimes it will zest almost like the snappy how-to movie and sometimes it only zests 1 side of the lemon. The adjustments don't show up well because the whole business end is black. When the demonstrator puts his hands in the picture, you really can't see what is happening.

For demonstration purposes, it would be nice to have the adjusting knobs in a contrasting color.

It would also be nice to have demonstrations for fruit that isn't perfectly round.

I once spent all afternoon zesting about 50 lemons (I own a bakery and I need the zest for my lemon cookies). Then I bought the zip zester. Now I can zest about 90 lemons in an hour and a half. Additionally, the zest is very fine, unlike the zest you get from any but the best handheld zesters (and it takes practice to get good zest from those). Also, there aren't chunks of my fingers in the zest I get with the zip zester. That is always a plus. It is mostly made out of plastic and so yes, eventually it will no doubt need to be replaced. I've had it for a year now, though; it has long since paid for itself, and it is still going strong.
