This arrived today in an open box - all parts appear to be in the box, but the box itself was in bad shape. In addition, upon opening the product, it because quite apparent that these are used. The rubber feel are scuffed and bruised, and there is what appears to be sheet rock or other construction dust all over the poles.

They are not only useful for the containment of dust in the work space but it also make my service look so much more professional when I do not have to tape or tack plastic sheeting to my customers walls.
I feel that taking good care of my customers property is as important to my reputation as the quality of my workmanship.
I have also had good experience with the quality of this product. I have never had a Zip pole break, even with less than careful handling by my employees, they have always held up.
I highly recommend this product.
Thank you,

5.0 out of 5 stars Great functionality & excellent customer service, head piece quality could afford to be improved, June 1, 2010

These ZipPoles are a great idea, however I was disappointed by the lower build quality of one of the components - the head pieces (according to Zipwall's website). I don't doubt that other people are bending these pieces with regularity when you consider that they sell replacement "head" pieces on their website. Here is my experience.

I was locking in plastic sheeting in one of the slider pieces during the first use and the slider piece broke. The slider pieces which you use to secure the plastic (or other barrier) is not made very well and is susceptible to bending/breaking. I would advise you to use as thin of plastic sheeting as necessary for your job. I was only using 3 mil thick plastic sheeting and it managed to break on me. In my opinion, 3 mil is a reasonable plastic sheeting thickness. So after noticing that one of my slider pieces broke, I also noticed that by the end of my project, two more were bent (when the black plastic turns white and get flimsy). The last one of the four managed to make it through a few uses unscathed so that's 25% of the slider pieces making it through without bending or breaking.

What is disappointing is that I ordered this set well in advance knowing that they *could be* useful for the floor refinishing/sanding that I am doing, but by the time I get around to using them for the first time, it has been just over 1 month (1 month and 2 days) since I bought them so they are ineligible for a return to Amazon. All I expect is for them to send me a couple more of these head pieces.

The poles themselves seem to be good quality and I will give credit where credit is due. The idea behind these ZipPoles is excellent, and besides the head piece issue, my experience has otherwise been pretty good.

Although these poles *can* get the job done effectively, it would be worthwhile for ZipWall to manufacture the higher quality head pieces. You don't want to have to worry about them bending/cracking on account of the thickness of your plastic sheeting/visqueen. On the flip side, if you use sheeting that is too thin, you run a higher risk of the plastic tearing. I think 3 mil should do the trick if you're careful, but anything thinner may tear too easily and anything thicker is that much more likely to bend those head pieces into which the slider/grip pieces fit and hold your sheeting when locked in.

Right now, I am in the process of trying to contact the manufacturer of the ZipPoles for the replacement head pieces, and I hope they will be easy to deal with. I will follow up to advise everyone about how easy OR difficult it is to get replacement head pieces based on this 1-year warranty that they offer. My rating is primarily due to the disappointing component (head pieces) despite the rest of the set being of decent quality. If the head pieces were better quality, I could see giving this product a 4 or 5 star rating. In my opinion, a product is only as good as its weakest link, and in this case, the weakest link is the poorly made head piece.

**********6/22/2011 UPDATE**********

I spoke with Christine at ZipWall. She was absolutely great!!! She called me back the following day after I sent an email. I returned her call at my earliest convenience, and she was extremely diligent about getting me some new head piece parts on order (FREE-of-charge and without any fuss). She was very polite, professional, and understanding of my needs and desires for this product.

ZipPole product concept & its capabilities - 5 stars
ZipPole quality (poles themselves) - 4.5 stars
Head piece quality - 1.5 stars (they work, but are susceptible to bending/breaking)
Christine @ ZipWall - 5 stars
Getting new head pieces to replace my old bent/broken ones - 5 stars!

Overall, I have updated my review rating to 5 stars (up from 2 stars) and my rationale is that this product is very good one, and despite its shortcoming (header pieces), their customer service is great and they made the problem right by sending me new header pieces hassle-free and free-of-charge. These ZIpPoles are a product which can effectively do what it is intended to do (which is awesome for containing job site debris among other functions) as long as all of the components maintain their integrity. Thanks to Christine & ZipWall for making things right with me.

-----

Just a final comment about how great Christine was - she even gave me a cool suggestion about other uses for the ZipPoles - for supporting (muslin) backdrops for photography which is great because my wife does a lot of photography. My concern, of course, is that the thickness of those muslin backdrops could bend the header pieces, but I will try this very carefully to see if it's a possibility without compromising the head.

This version of the ZipWall is slightly cheaper than the contractor grade ones I've used in the past, but they really are nice for the price. I bought these for home use, as I was getting ready to do some chimney work and I didn't want the dust to get into my house. My ceiling is vaulted, and these poles had no problem handling the angle due to the rubberized feet. The two zippers that it came with were really helpful in creating an entry way for me. I wish I had bought these things much sooner than I did.

DO NOT open these in your house, as you will immediately disperse this dust.

Amazon should not be selling used products as new.

After the first use, one of my workers asked why we did not use these sooner.
They are not perfect but darn close to it. We do plan to purchase more providing the work continues to come in.

These poles work great for putting up plastic "walls". I use them to control dust and texture overspray. I used to spend a lot of time and $$$ on masking etc. Using the Zip poles saves me both. I also like the lower price of the steel poles. I'm ordering another set tonight.

These ZipPoles are awesome. I'm having work done here in my house and I was concerned about the dust from the construction getting all over the house. A friend recommended that I buy this 4 pack and some Foam Rails in case my contractor wasn't prepared to put up a dust barrier. They work so well and go up so easily and fast, my contractor couldn't believe it. Now, when the job is done, he wants to buy them from me. I'm not sure I want to let them go in case I need them again.

I recently had an addition put on my home and our contractor used a system so dust wouldn't get all over the house. The contractor used ZipPoles by ZipWall to put up the plastic and hold it really tight against the ceiling. It didn't take him long and, more importantly, it kept ALL the dust inside the work area. You couldn't even tell we were in a construction zone on my side of the house. I would highly recommend having your contractor use this system.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you are work in occupied homes - you must have these!, March 26, 2010
This review is from: ZipWall ZipPole ZP4 Low Cost Spring Loaded Pole Kit with Carry Bag (Tools & Home Improvement)
We have been using Zipwall Poles for 4 years now. After purchasing our first 4 pack from Sherwin Williams, we set up a house and sprayed a kitchen, controlling our airfow without nails, screws, or staples up into the ceiling holding the plastic. These things are great - they set up quickly, collapse down to move and store easy, and make you look professional while keeping the rest of the home clean. If you are doing a project that will require the plastic to be up for awhile, make sure you add the zippers and make a door. If it is just for our access, we will install one zipper. If the client will be coming through over the weekend, or for a few weeks, we install two about 2' apart allowing you to roll up the door over the weekend.

We have seen some competitor produucts at work on other job sites. There was one that has a small latch that digs into the side of the pole to hold it up. I can't help but think that that mark on the outside, each time you move the poles, will make them look chewed up and narly. The Zip Pole cam system is inside the tube - you don't have any marring. Plus, all you do is press it to the ceiling, leave a bit of room for sliding the bottom plastic under, then twist it. #With that in mind, make sure you do not let any tape get stuck to the poles that slide inside - the tape glue can cause the cams to malfunction.#

When setting up the poles, we find it bext to place our poles where we will want them, then start at one end on a ladder and attached the plastic to the head. Pulling the plastic snug as you go, we attach the plastic to the next head and so forth. Once all heads are placed, then lift the bottom and slide the plastic under - creating a tight wall. You can do it all from the floor, but you have to be careful where you attach the plastic - we find doing it at the top on a ladder just a bit faster.

As stated up top, if you are working in occupied homes, you need a set of these. Since introducing the newer steel shaft version, they have dropped the price enough to be even better!
