Tips that will extend the life of your bags!,

This review is from: Ziploc Vacuum Pump Refill Bags, Gallon Size, 8 Count (Kitchen)
I would like to help those of you who would like to save money on these bags. They are good bags & worth the effort in my opinion.
1)Buy the cheapest store brand quart & gallon storage bags & put your food in them before placing them into these bags. For dryer items, no juice, blood ect, don't seal the cheaper storage bag all the way so the air can be suctioned fully out. For the more wet items, close the inner cheap storage bag & freeze overnight then suction the air out in the AM. 2)Remove inner bags before defrosting or tightly close the inside bag to keep the food from leaking into your vacuum bags. Generally, the vacuum bags are a little damp from condensation when they come out of the freezer so just prop them open over night before storing or hang upside down with clothes pins. Now you have a clean reusable vac bag, I store all the used ones in a clean cheap storage bag for use later. I will always go to the used bags first. 3)I do not put any packages from the stores directly inside the vacuum bags as now they are defiled & I would need to wash them before reuse. I don't want to store dirty bags. Speaking of that, on the off chance that you have a mishap & get the vacuum bag dirty on the inside, they can be washed out with warm soapy water & hung to dry. 4)You can use the same principle as above for regular freezer bags in the event they discontinue these bags. Of course recycling anything is good for our environment too! 5)I have noticed after repeated use, the bags eventually give up the ghost, they will no longer suction or air will seep back in after a while in the freezer:( Take those out of the freezer & replace with another bag. On the outside of these dysfunctional bags, I write bad bag & use them like regular freezer bags, for freezing items that will be used fairly soon. 6)For people having trouble closing them...try not to over fill the bags, leave enough room after closing them tightly, running your finger flat against the seam a few times assures a good seal. You need to be able to lay the little vac sealer flat against the valve on the bags. Good luck:)

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

Excellent product but hard to find at the stores in our area. I use it for blocks of cheese, cold cuts, anything that is put in the freezer. Keep things in the fridge so fresh and not freezer burned in the freezer. Probably not good for fresh veggies or anything that you don'y want squished though. Reynolds used to make a similar product but they stopped making it.

Great for storage and Sous-Vide!,

While I found these for much cheaper in my local supermarket I just wanted to post a review of them here. These are somewhat pricey, especially if you don't have the ability to reuse them but the vacuum holds very well both in the freezer or a hot car (keeping snacks from drying out). I also used these to cook up some steaks Sous-Vide style and they worked great. So far it only looks like you get their pump with the quart sized bags but since I'll probably be using them more often I should have more than a few on hand. If the price were similar to the regular bags it's probably all I would use.
Recommended (check locally for better prices though)
