The good stuff first: these nest really well, so they can be stored without taking up much space. They feel heavy and well-made, and the lids can be put on and removed fairly easily.

Now the rest: I've only had these for a day, and I'm pretty frustrated. I planned to use them in the toaster oven, since they're perfectly sized and they're "Oven safe up to 400F", but the fine print on the inside of the label warns you not to use them in a toaster oven. Since I never heat up the big oven for a small amount of food, they'll probably never be used that way.

Well, no problem, they'll be perfect for marinating tonight's dinner. I put the food in a red wine marinade, put the lid on tightly, and let it stand. After a while I gently shook the container to move the food around in the marinade. Marinade leaked all over my counter, floor, and one of my favorite shirts. I checked the lid to be sure it was secure, and it was.

So you can heat food with these, but only in a full-sized oven, and you can store food in these, as long as there's no liquid or no risk of tipping the container. I'm very glad they nest together with lids, because I suspect they'll spend a lot of time in storage.

3/29/11 update: I contacted Ziploc and asked if these should leak as badly as they do. I explained that the large one leaked and I immediately checked the lid, which was secure. I told them that I tested the other two with water and they both leaked badly, and I checked the lids on both of those to be sure I'd put them on tightly.

The rep explained that they might leak a little, but not as badly as I was describing, and told me several times that I had to put the lids on tightly. When I repeated that I did, she told me "No, you have to really push down on them.

At last a storage container that I can heat up in the oven. Or in the microwave, without fear of harmful chemicals leaching from plastic (with the lid off). When heating in the microwave, the glass does heat up, but not so badly as some pyrex dishes I've had over the years. I bring my lunch to work and often use last night's leftovers, so these are perfect for that. This package of Ziploc VersaGlass Container stacks compactly when empty, and comes in a useful assortment of sizes from small to a medium large. They take extreme temps well and have gone from freezer to oven and back with no problem. The glass is quite chip resistant and has withstood knocking around in the sink without chipping so far.

There are a few drawbacks but none that are deal breakers. Yes, these are expensive, but if you factor in the long term durability and versatile the cost is pretty much offset. Still, for some people a cheap plastic container might be the best option, especially if just for storage. When heating in the microwave, the glass does heat up, but not so badly as some pyrex dishes I've had over the years. If you wait a minute after heating or cover your hand with a napkin, you can handle them easily. The thick plastic lid can be a little tough to remove, though they go on easily. While not quite watertight, as long as they aren't held upside-down they keep food sauces and juices in pretty well. I would not use these to store thin liquids though. One last thing -- the thick glass makes these containers rather heavy. Much more so than regular plastic tupperware. It doesn't bother me, but it is something to keep in mind.

Who is this for? The Ziploc VersaGlass Containers are ideal for people who don't mind spending a bit more for a versatile glass storage/serving container.

I came on here just to see if others had the same problem with the leaking. Apparently, I'm not the only one!

This was my first purchase of glass containers, going to stay away from plastic & replace all my containers with glass. Super disappointed when I filled one of these up with soup & it ended up all over my counter. Then I filled 2 more with soup (making bulk & freezing, which is why I bought these containers) and they all leaked all over the place. Very frustrating. I had to take soup out so I had a good inch from the rim, then after placing the lid back on I secured it with two rubber-bands. After the bands were on, the lids seemed secure enough, but I wasn't going to test it & have another huge mess!

This is Ziploc. Aren't they supposed to be known for their "seal"?? What the deuce. They should throw in a package of rubber-bands for free.

On a happy note, I think these are very attractive! My eyes loved them the moment I saw them. TOO BAD.

Amazon sent these to me to rate for you and I love them, but they are not perfect. They are oven proof and freezer friendly. They can go from the freezer to the oven and then to the table and work perfectly. I do not microwave but these are micro friendly also.
After you think of all the wonderful ways you can use these, you must also think about the ease of use. The tops are a very strong rubbery material that holds on very well but that also means it is a bit difficult to peel them off, I don't mind that. These are not air or water tight either, I am not looking for Tupperware. They do leak if you tip them over and you have liquid in them.
I have no intention of taking these along with me wherever I go so this is not a problem for me. I would recommend these for general storing use in the home to cook store and serve with.
I would definitely buy them again and probably again that is how much I like them.
