The size of this is just big enough that I wouldn't want it permanently hanging on my keyring, so the issue of the split ring does not concern me personally. Most dedicated Zippo users make sure that they fuel their lighters regularly. It's something that becomes a habit. Newer users who get their first Zippo while putting the butane lighter in the drawer may find re-fuelling their lighter more often a relative pain, but they soon come around once they start to prefer a Zippo to a bit of cheap plastic. Now, that being said there are occasions where having a handy quick fill option might be needed, i.e. weekends away for whatever reason etc. That is where this canister comes into it's own. Not only will it refill your Zippo but will hold a couple of spare flints and has a handy tool to unscrew the flint screw in the bottom, (just in case you don't have a dime handy), and it also gives a little peace of mind, knowing that you won't have to use a pack of matches until you get home.

OK, now the glitch. Far more serious than the split ring. It leaks. Uh Oh! Doesn't that kinda defeat the purpose? Well yes. Now I note that not everyone had this leaking problem so after a little investigation I think I managed to work out that it's simply a quality control problem. The nozzle that you expose to actually pour fuel into your Zippo, seals just fine. The leak comes from where the main body of the canister screws into the "head" section. Inside the head section is a flat rubber washer. The main body should seal against this as it is screwed in tightly but on the one that I got either the threads are fractionally too short, or the washer is fractionally too thin. Either way there isn't an effective seal even if you screw the body in as tight as it will go.

The Zippo Fuel Canister is leakproof, and holds an adequate supply of fluid for a lighter refill, or for a top-off on my pocket hand warmer. It has a vent hole that you need to orient up when pouring, so that the fuel leaves the canister in a smooth fashion - it pours well! (The vent hole is covered by the cap seal when the cap is in place)

The only problem that I had was with the ring that attaches the pocket clip/key ring and flint storage device to the canister. The ring opened and the flint holder came off and was almost lost. (That is why this item was not rated a 5).

I replaced the Zippo supplied ring with a split ring of a similar diameter (split rings never come loose - some hardware stores sell these in a variety of sizes) This addition cost me 15 cents and now I have a product that is a "5". Too bad Zippo didn't do this to begin with. (Interestingly, the ring supplied for your keys is a split ring!)

One other note, if you have a greasy splash on your shirt, pouring some fuel on it followed by a clean cloth can stop the grease stain before it sets - a nice added use for the Canister!

This Fuel canister is one of the most ingenious yet simple things i have ever found. The naphta based fuel light fluid evaporates pretty fast and i am usualy stuck with a dead zippo, but no more! It is basically a ultra space saving zippo servicing station.

Pros: All aluminum design is very sturdy
double rubber gaskets seal the canister so no fuel evaporates
has a flint screw tab that you can use to unscrew the flint screw, plus a flint holder
very portable (i attach it with my keys)

Cons:
the jump ring connecting everything together, the canister, flint holder, split ring, can be pulled apart over time, i replaced with a 10mm split ring
Aluminum is soft, scratches a bit easy
the flint holder is kinda flimsy, but it shouldnt be a problem
the zippo logo rubs off, but that isnt too much of a bother

Overall, a product that should be on the must have list of zippo owners.

(I have added some photographs above)

I wanted this because one day at work in a field miles away from anyone with a few hours left to work my zippo ran out with no other way of lighting my smoke (did not want to start a fire with fire starter).

When this item arrived I was suprised how big it is (thicker than a finger). This is a good thing as it carrys a good refill worth of fluid.

The small loop I changed soon as it arrived to a same size snap style same as the large one that comes with it.

The rubber sleeve only holds one flint that is kinda hard to get out but it does comeout eventually, the small metal disc works well.

I checked the leaking issue some have had (even had a tap washer ready) but it didnt leak check yours.

The words will wear off soon as the container will be in my work pack.

The canister unscrews seperating base and pour nozzle for filling (thats where larger seal ring is) the pour nozzle also has a screw on cap with a tiny rubber ring insert. The top screw on lid is the actual canister atachment to the loop.

I don't smoke or own a Zippo lighter. However, I have been using lighter fluid for decades to clean my scissors and other tools. Lighter fluid works great on getting off adhesive residue from anything, and it leaves no visible mark on paper. Rather than carry around a big can of lighter fluid, I have been looking for something small and convenient to carry a small quantity of the fluid. However, only glass or metal will prevent the lighter fluid from evaporating. So when I saw this aluminum container it was exactly what I was looking for. I have 3 of these now and besides lighter fluid, the other 2 contain rubbing alcohol, and nail polish remover; all solvents I use in my various crafting activities.
