5.0 out of 5 stars Good, solid first lighter
If you are looking for a Zippo, chances are you want to do more than light a cigarette; you're probably getting this lighter to do tricks. If so, this is a good lighter to go with, it's a functional basic Zippo.

However, if you think you're going to be playing around with this thing for a while, you might seriously want to consider getting a slightly better...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not so good after a while
I'd read consistently good things about Zippo lighters and wanted a no-frills lighter I could take on camping trips. The lighter arrived promptly and I filled it up with lighter fluid. It worked great, with a strong flame on the first click of the flint. But... a few weeks later, it didn't work on an overnight camping trip. All the lighter fluid had evaporated from the...

However, if you think you're going to be playing around with this thing for a while, you might seriously want to consider getting a slightly better looking one (perhaps black, or with a zippo logo) for a couple of extra bucks. I got this lighter last week, and am already in love with it and trick with it all the time; I already wish I had a fancier one to show off...

Also, remember this is a refillable ZIPPO lighter from which fuel dries over time if not used, HENCE IT COMES WITH NO FUEL FILLED(duh!). So do yourself a favor, and buy Zippo lighter fluid right now with the lighter and don't curse yourself later about having to pay shipping twice.

5.0 out of 5 stars About as Classy as a Lighter Can Get, October 7, 2007
By
Let me say right away that this isn't a lighter that you open and start using, and then throw away when you're done with it. If you want one of those, go get a Bic. This is a Zippo! Sure, you have to refill it some, (since it comes without fluid, and dries out after a few weeks) and you can mess up your wick easier than you can mess up a regular lighter, but that's kind of the point. You see, this is the kind of lighter that you're supposed to buy and actually care for, which is part of its charm. If you mess up the wick, grab some tweezers and some scissors and pull the wick up a little bit (its surprisingly long) and cut the wick to the desired length. If you use up your flint, go buy a new one (I think they're like 59 cents for 3 at Wal-Mart) and put it in yourself. And if you do manage to mess it up beyond easy repair, you can just mail it to Zippo, since they offer a lifetime warranty on this product. Past that, I don't think I know a lighter that's nearly as much fun to light. The flint wheel and flint are quality components, and the lighter stays lit without you having to hold some stupid plastic button to keep it that way (did I mention that there isn't a single plastic component in the whole lighter?). I don't know how well I've described the kind of warmth that seems to grow in you for your Zippo as time goes by (For example my friend still has one from 2003, so he's had a single lighter for 4 years), but I can only hope that I've piqued your interest enough to go invest the 10 or 15 bucks to have one. After all, the more people that buy Zippos, the cheaper they are for me!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what you wanted., April 15, 2011

This review is from: Zippo Brushed Chrome Pocket Lighter (Kitchen)
I first started getting into wanting a Zippo after finding my dad's old brass deal, and I noticed it smudged a lot and never kept a shine. So when I got around to buying my own, I bought the 1941 replica, then the 1937, and because I wanted one of each main type of lighter that they sold in silver, I needed to get a standard windproof, and having bought my friend a chrome high polish Zippo, I liked it, but knew it was going to get used and abused, so I didn't want something that was only going to get scratches in it.

Enter the brushed chrome. This isn't a 'cheap' Zippo by any quality standard, the chrome finish gives it balls. No muss or fuss with this thing, works fine, solid closing and opening, no play. Flint wheel works, everything is exactly how a Zippo should be, and best of all, the finish makes it look like the thing can take a bullet and still hold up, it just looks tough. It may be one of the cheaper lighters Zippo offers, because it is a basic. But I don't like graphics, I like it plain and simple. I hold it right up there with my replicas and I'm totally satisfied with my purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars My first lighter, August 16, 2009

This was the first lighter I ever bought, it's reliable, durable, it's a Zippo. It takes some care to keep a zippo going but in my opinion it's worth it

This lighter is nice for anyone who likes the classic Zippo feel and taste, and likes the brushed aluminum look. It is really efficient when it comes to fuel, and has a nice strong flame. The only downside to this lighter is that the top, bottom and edges of the lighter are not brushed aluminum...picking up fingerprints very easily.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's not broken -- don't fix it., May 15, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This lighter is the time-tested fluid lighter that has been used for the last half century.
It works great, is durable and windproof (except in a full gale). As soon as I filled it with lighter fluid I was set.
I also placed a couple of extra flints inside the lighter (under the bottom felt pad) for replacement of the flint.
I prefer this over the butane lighters because lighter fluid stores easily, refills are quick and easy and the lighter works for quite a time before needing another fill.

4.0 out of 5 stars A basic Zippo for a basic purpose, December 13, 2008
There's nothing too special about the lighter. It does exactly what it needs to do. It isn't beautiful or anything, but it's by no means ugly. It's just pretty plain, and that's what I wanted. It comes with a flint and no fluid (for obvious reasons). I look forward to using this on future camping trips.

I'd recommend it to anyone who wants a quality camper lighter that can be used over and over and over.
