As the title signifies, "Rhino Liner for your Zippo" is what I expected when I bought this lighter. For the most part, that is the case, but in other ways it is not. Yes it does have a gritty texture to it, but it is not rough feeling in the least, in fact it is smoother (or more slick) than a chrome style Zippo. With my Black Ice Zippo when I hold it in my hand I feel as if I have a good grip on it, if I get my thumb and start from the bottom of the lighter and slide it to the top, the case feels as if it has some grip to it (as long as my hands aren't greasy or something). With the Black crackle if I slide my thumb from the bottom to the top, it slides very easily and has virtually no grip on the lighter whatsoever. If you have anything in your house that is painted with a matte black style paint (that has a rough texture), that is basically what this lighter feels like. And it has significantly less grip than a chrome style Zippo.
Now the look of the lighter is great. It's all black with that rough looking texture, simple yet beautiful. I may actually like the look of the Black Crackle more than I do my shiny Black Ice Zippo. And this thing is 100% fingerprint proof and likely very scratch resistant.Read more ›
I wanted a black zippo this time, and tried the "black stainless steel" model. If your lighter sits in your pocket with anything else like keys, pocket knife, or the like, it will mar the pretty new black surface of your lighter. Not that anyone expects them to stay pristine, but that's just the way it is.
Enter: the black crackle zippo.
I have read in other reviews that this is a re-make of some WW-something era covering, and I believe it. The surface is VERY durable--mine's been put through the ringer and it still looks like it is brand new. (Had it for a few months but carry it every day.) The coating doesn't feel like it's even close to flaking off, and it makes the lighter and the hinge action a little heavier and more solid, which I also like. Oh, and it has survived multiple drops on cement with no marks whatsoever.
Overall, terrific lighter. The butane insert fits perfectly in it as well, in case you aren't a fan of the old school fluid, but that's up to you.
No matter what you're up to, adventuring, construction, vacation, or just need a regular carry, this is the one I'd pick several times over. Enjoy!
The shell is the normal zippo brass with an enjoyable sprayed on crackle finish. It's extremely durable, I don't smoke but I can always find something every day to light. And the only time this guy has ever let me down is when I use up the fuel.
Now my second favorite lighter it's still the one anyone can put in their pocket or take anywhere and not need to worry about scratching or destroying its looks. My first fav. lighter and more of a pure class is the Armor Polished Brass Zippo,
Cons: the only one is the hinge its able to wiggle the top cap back and forth, but only when its open, and then you have to examine it closely and look from the side. So its nothing anyone would notice.
Buy a Zippo, they're amzing lighters, reliable durable, awesome and just plain sexy.

Simple and pure Zippo.
Easy to fill, lights every time and great price
On my 5th Zippo since 1965; only "disappointment" I have is that it requires refilling with lighter fluid every day or so. Read morePublished 16 days ago by Ray Fish
I don't know whose problem it is: the lighter itself? the lighter fluid I chose? Or just my bad luck? I use it to light candles at night, and the fluid drys off quickly. Read morePublished 22 days ago by XL
