5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring for kids of all ages December 31, 2011
"Zippy and the Stripes of Courage" is a very sweet and inspiring book about a little zebra with the courage to do the right thing in spite of his fears and self doubts. This book is a great way to talk to kids about how to treat others and how to deal with bullies. I've seen it work it's magic on 8th graders as well as three year olds. A must have! A great addition to this book for adults is "Underneath the Scars."

5.0 out of 5 stars I fell in love with Zippy! December 31, 2011
Zippy is the book that you will read over and over again! My 4 year old nephew loves Zippy and gets excited every time it is read to him. Zippy has a message that will touch every child's heart that it is read to. Zippy shows us that true courage and bravery is doing things when you are scared to death. The vibrant colors used to illustrate this book are remarkable! It has everything a children's book should have, and so much more!
Aslo check out another book written by Candida Sullivan geared towards adults with challenges and obstacles in their lives. Underneath the Scars

While I like the story line, I did not realise that this book has such a religious focus, with many references to God and prayer. As a non believer it is not something I want to read to my grandchildren and will have to make adjustments in the story line. Very disappointed.

I liked the way the author set the plot, characters, etc. I sharing this truth and this story. 5.0 out of 5 stars Reviewed by Kristie I. for Readers Favorite February 27, 2012

"Zippy and the Stripes of Courage," written by Candida Sullivan and illustrated by Jack Foster, is an excellent story for helping children to accept themselves even if they are different from their peers. Zippy is the only zebra in his family and the only zebra he knows who was born without any stripes. Zippy is constantly being stared at and asked questions about his lack of stripes, so Zippy will hide and keep to himself. One day while Zippy is looking at his reflection is the water a group of zebras notice him and invite him to play. Zippy is enjoying himself until the group decides to cross Crocodile Crossing. Zippy is afraid to cross and his new friends tease him because he is afraid. When hyenas chase after the group of zebras, Zippy is tempted to not help them, but he is encouraged by a wise owl to make a good choice and help the group of zebras since it is good to treat others as you would like to be treated yourself. Zippy feels ashamed that he is not like the other zebras and he does not like himself. After helping his new friends by being brave, Zippy is praised for being brave and for the first time in his life Zippy feels good about himself and accepts himself for who he is.

This book is a great resource to use with children to help them accept themselves for who they are even if they are not exactly like their peers. It also helps them to accept others who may be different from themselves. Filled with bright and fun illustrations, this book will grab children's attention and keep them involved in the story. The book concludes with a page of discussion questions from Dr. Rick Metrick which will really help the young readers to learn from this story and apply it to their own lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for any child! February 4, 2012
This book is/was so helpful for our daughter who deals with many physical differences and hates to be stared at. She was reading it aloud to her younger siblings and stopped to tell me "mom this is what I feel like!" She has grown so much in realizing she can deal with the stares by catching someone's eye and just smiling back....! I think any child would benefit from this book and adult's as well.
