I tested this thing out in a well known hardware store and it worked great. Got home and it worked just as good. Very well for the price, can't go wrong at all. It comes with some tips as well. Good luck!

Just arrived, put a battery in and off it went. Tried it in a few places along the wall in a known area. Worked every time. Will update if any changes to performance.

I got this for my dad, and he likes it. It's a vast improvement over not having a stud finder at all, but this isn't the fanciest one in the world. Note that it doesn't come with batteries (not that it should, but I should have paid more attention considering I was giving it as a gift!). Free super saver shipping was a plus.

I could not get a consistent reading with this. The edge of stud would come out different on several occasions.

I picked this up to help with installing safety rails in a family members bathtub. It was horribly inaccurate through fiberglass and wall board. False negatives. False positives. It really turned my job and my day into a living hell.

I ultimately had to end up drilling my wall like a big piece of Swiss cheese, to find the studs.
While this stud finder, did give a general good indication of where a couple of those studs were located, I could not get a consistent reading, at different vertical positions on the wall. (including electrical wiring warnings) If there is a more reliable tool, I'd pay extra for it. This unit, ultimately only served as a very broad guide for locating possible suitable areas for drilling.

Was asked by a friend to install their HDTV on their living room wall. Up to now, I'd ever purchased a stud finder...worked construction and know how to find a stud without one...however, it's not my house or TV. Thus, I wanted to triple check myself before drilling holes in their wall.

I bought the Zircon StudSensor e40 at a local brick and mortar store. Used it with success once but every since, it just doesn't work well. Lots of error outs (LED and beeping non stop indicating to move to a new area and retry) even though I have good batteries in the unit. One time it works, another time it does not work, even in the exact same spot. Cannot remember how much I paid but it is now trash. *sigh*
