I have used the standard Zircon edgefinding studsensor Pro SL for years installing closet organizers. I finally got tired of screwing into hollow cavities. This version not only finds the studs but the CENTER of the studs which makes a BIG difference and saves me a lot of time. The pencil marker feature comes in handy. The one shortcoming in my experience is trying to find studs behind drywall painted in the prior 48 hours with either model. The home center price was 50% more.

9 times out of 10 I am unable to find the center of a stud using this gadget, even though the little lights supposedly tell you exactly where the center is. It's deceiving because it lights up and beeps in such a way that you really feel like it's working! But alas, I've ruined more drywall trying to actually find the studs in spite of this thing. I'll run it across the wall 10 times and mark the spot each time with the nifty built-in pencil marker (the only redeeming quality of this piece of junk) and every mark will land in a different place on the wall so you're left guessing where you think the center is. It's just not consistent or accurate! A contractor friend just told me to stop wasting money on stud finders and get a supercharged magnet--the magnet will tell you exactly where the drywall screws are, which will indicate exactly where the stud is. Genius!

It almost works on 1/2 inch unpainted drywall ... almost. I think dowsing rods might work as well. If you have a 5/8 inch drywall you are wasting your time. I have tried a couple of these. They just simply don't function as advertised. As this manufacturer is skating so close to being outright fraudulent, it's time to look a different brands.

My Zircon i60 either does not work correctly or is very worthless. It lights up when an electric cord is "nearby" but by nearby I mean anywhere within a foot or so. So that's not very helpful. It absolutely does not sense studs. Maybe it is broken, I don't know, but I tested it on a wall where I am 100% sure there was a stud and the wall was less than 3/4" thick so it should have worked. I am returning mine.

I always had a hard time find the studs when I'm doing projects around the house, I really like the way this is set up.

I bought this product specifically to put in a safety bar in the bathroom into ceramic tile. I followed the directions correctly and got a reading behind the ceramic tile, and started my installation. Well, there was no stud where it told me it was and I drilled a hole in ceramic tile that I could not find a match for, I searched all over the country, drove to many different stores and still could not find a replacement that matched. A 15 minute job turned into a week of hell. I would not recommend this product for anything other than painted drywall. I got the deep scan so I wouldn't have to go through what I did, and it bit me, hopefully this review will prevent someone else from going through it as well.
