This dog is cute. I returned the first one and it did not get better with the second one. First while you can rename it, both dogs did not respond to their new name for more than three commands. So I went back to Lucky. Sometimes I have to call his name two or three times before he responds. He mostly always confuses the commands i.e. I say sit and he plays tug of war. My kids are young so I just say "no you silly dog" and they just laugh off the fact he didn't do the right trick. I only paid $30 dollars for Lucky so overall I'm not too upset. I wouldn't pay more than $30.

Our 4YO daughter wanted a puppy for Christmas and while Santa understood we didnt have the time to devote to a real live animal he came up with this wonderful alternative.

Lucky responded to most commands w/o any difficulty. Christmas morning was chaos so any command confusion was easily attributed to the other noise interferance that was going on. Lucky responded well to both adult and child commands once we learned them and chaos settled.

The only negative I have found on this dog is that one of his extra talents that is not defined on the box is his ability to pass gas. This bonus feature is completely unneccesary & does not enhance his appeal. But for the joy this puppy has given our duaghter, I can deal w/ a little gas. At least smell doesnt accompany it.

We did not change his name so I cannot comment on any command difficulties that others have experienced w/ name changes. I am sorry to hear that others had negative experiences w/ thier Lucky's. This was a BIG THUMBS UP at our house. The only reason I didnt give him 5 stars was because of the gas issue.

This is one of the best purchases I have ever made. My kids and I have had so much fun with this adorable little doggie. Sure, he doesn't always respond perfectly but 90% of the time he's right on. You have to be very clear with your commands and give him time to respond. It's not that difficult, my six year old can do it just fine. I don't understand how anyone could give this toy a bad review. We love him!

It was a big let down on Christmas morning when we opened up Lucky, put in batteries and tried to get him to do some tricks. We took turns speaking softly, loudly and even yelling at him (which really confused our dogs) but he would not respond at least 75% of the time.

The toy is great...this is a warning for those who may fall victim to the scammers here charging 75 bucks for the same toy that can be bought in discount stores (Where there are PLENTY in stock) for 38 bucks. Sorry...I just despise opportunists that try to gouge using children's toys...do it with anything else but not toys.

I purchased this toy for our 4 yo grandson but Lucky is a hit with our 7 yo grandson and our 18 month old granddaughter as well. They are delighted with the tricks and responses from Lucky. Their mom is even more delighted to have a pup without all the messes that come with it.

Move over, Lightening McQueen! Of all the new toys this year he is proving to be the biggest hit. He will be even more fun for the grandchildren as they learn the correct phrases to have Lucky perform.

As mentioned by another reviewer, Lucky does make an obnoxious sound of passing gas, but he does apologize for it. Perhaps that will be a way of teaching manners????

Santa brought this for my daughter on Christmas 2008 when she was 3. She (and all the rest of the family) loved Lucky! She opted to not change Lucky's name. You have to speak clearly and Lucky will do everything you say. Sometimes my daughter can't get him to do everything, but Lucky will do something anyway (even if it's the wrong thing), and she laughs and has fun with him. Lucky is a very durable toy. He has withstood being carried by his legs, dropped, and forced to sit or lie down. His leash got thrown away with the chaos of Christmas, but it is not needed. My daughter uses a toy bone from a vet set toy she has, and Lucky will hold that just fine. Sometimes she plays with Lucky with him set to "off." Now we have a 10mo old son, and he enjoys watching and petting Lucky. This was bought at Target on Sale in December for way less than Amazon is selling it for. It's a must-have toy, though!

My daughter is 6 years old now. Last year, she got a Fur Real parrot from Santa. It was wonderful! But it could not understand many of her 5 year old commands. (in fact, my voice was the only one that it could understand 90% of the time) ... He broke and she requested another for Christmas. The store was out of Fur Real parrots, so I gave Lucky a try.

Wow! I am very impressed ... He probably understands my commands near 75% of the time and my daughter's commands a little over 30% of the time. When he gets something wrong, I just say "Silly puppy. I think he needs more training."

I gave him fun points because he is fun. Educational points because trying to make him understand encourages my daughter to speak up and speak clearly. And durrable points because ... well, lets face it. Life isn't easy with a 6 year old but he hast stood up to these last few weeks wonderfully.

I did get it from Target for a bit cheaper, but I would have paid this for it, it is really well made toy!

My almost 2 year old and my 3 1/2 year old LOVE IT.

He has a feature where you dont "have" to tell him what to do, if you pet him he cycles through a few of the things, which is really nice for my 2 year old.

He "understands" enough that sometimes my 3 year old can get him to sit and such. He doesn't always pick up commands because of background noise and such, and my three year old doesn't always say it "clear" enough. But that doesn't matter.

He is SO cute, somewhat cuddly and does SO many things, my kids just ADORE him, I do too! He was the hit of the party at christmas!
I HIGHLY recommend him!!!

I bought this for my 7 year old. This toy is so great. It does so many things that the fur-real pets dont do. If you speak clearly, and do as the directions say, it works 95% of the time. we have had so much fun with this dog. and it does so many things. (it doesnt just "sit" and "come here")..there are about 15-20 things that this dog can do. Great fun!!
