5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!!
Really an AWESOME soundtrack from an AWESOME film. On top of the greatness that is Fincher's new film "Zodiac" we get this compilation of great music. The tunes perfectly complement the late 60's and early 70's and genuinely capture the angst and fear as well as the openess and nievete that is so perfectly captured in the film. Donovan's song Hudy Gurdy Man is the song...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for fans of the film, but falls short
I was so impressed by David Fincher's film, Zodiac, that I felt the need to own this soundtrack CD. Plus, it's always great to have nicely remastered versions of old radio favorites. One major downside for me is that the tracks on the CD are not sequenced in the order in which they appear in the film, which seems a bit thoughtless on the part of the compilers. In...

Donovan's song Hudy Gurdy Man is the song from the film's trailer and the grea Marvin Gaye tune Inner City Blues is a great addition to the time lapse of the Trans America Building being added to the San Fransisco skyline. If you like this era of music or liked the film, you'll love this soundtrack.

4.0 out of 5 stars Missing one track!, December 5, 2008

This review is from: Zodiac (Audio CD)
This is a good album, however, there is one track missing on this disc which was in the movie. The track is "(the) Lowdown" by Boz Scaggs. This is used in the restaurant scene between Dave Toschi and Robert Graysmith in the movie, and is pivotal for the scene, as Robert is giving Dave the "Lowdown" on who he thinks is the Zodiac Killer. 4 Stars for this out of 5 since the track is missing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Songs from the past, April 6, 2007
This review is from: Zodiac (Audio CD)
The zodiac soundtrack works well for those that may like a trip down memory lane. Films about the Vietnam War (Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, etc.) will normally represent this time period's top 40 style of music fairly well, and the Zodiac soundtrack is no different. I think it almost goes a step above, however, because it not only gives us a view of different songs from the late sixties, but also some artists who were notable and famous as well. Miles Davis, Four Tops, Santana, and John Coltrane are just some of the many artists and groups featured on this soundtrack. It may not have an extreme connection to the film like some soundtracks do, but it surely is a nice hits list of great music from this time period. My Zodiac Soundtrack did arrive with a small crack in the back of the jewel case, but it is of little concern to me and I would not hesitate ordering a CD from Amazon again. I'm going to give it a five star rating without hesitation or regret.

In particular, Donovan's "Hurdy Gurdy Man" should be either the second or final song on the disc, which it is not, and anyone who's a fan of the film will likely understand this complaint. Also, the version of Eric Burdon's "Sky Pilot" sounds terrible, though perhaps this was the best available master. My third and final nit-pick is that the Keith Jarrett piano piece used in 1 or 2 scenes is not represented on this disc at all. That said, the Issac Hayes track alone is probably worth tolerating the other shortcomings of this collection. I've also always loved Lynn Anderson's "(I Never Promised You a) Rosegarden." Not a bad disc to own, but don't expect a listening experience that will be fully evocative of the film.

Great compilation of terrific music. Lifts you up right from the get-go and smoothly sets you down with the final tracks. Isaac, Donovan,Mathis,Marvin, Sly, The Four Tops, etc., etc.---a "must have" for "BOOMERS"! One of the best movie sound tracks.

5.0 out of 5 stars love, November 25, 2007
This review is from: Zodiac (Audio CD)
This is one of my favorite CD's. It is just the music from the movie, but alone, it also evokes a feeling of the time. Highly recommended, especially for lovers of the 60's.

Over all this soundtrack is good, but, the one disappointment I have is the rerecorded version of the song Brother Louie (my favorite song on the soundtrack). Perhaps it's a licensing issue who knows. If the rights of original recordings are not available then why use the song? Probably most people wouldn't notice or care.
