Are you pulling the spout all the way out? When you do that, it extends for about an inch and you should have no problem with pouring without spilling.

Dear Persephone, I do not know the answer to your question but my guess is no. I have purchased olive oil in cans for years and there is never the same kind of coating on the inside of these tins as I have found on other canned goods. I just wanted to let you know that someone is listening to you.
