Wonderful all around olive oil,

I love olive oil and use it almost every day. I'm from a Greek family so I was raised with lots of olive oil. A year or so ago I got interested in tasting the various brands and types of olive oil on the market, sort of like I do with wine and coffee. Anyway, this was the first that I tried in that vein and it's a winner. I've tried quite a few others but for all around great taste, great packaging, great price and availability this is the winner. I've made everyone in my family try it! I still can't get over how well priced it is for such an excellent and well packaged product.

I decided to give ZOE brand olive oil a try since I was running out of my previous batch (Bertolli Classico). I'm really glad that I did because it tastes excellent and is a better deal than the Bertolli. The first thing I noticed was its darker color (a true olive green, not nearly yellow like cheaper olive oils). I used some to prepare a pasta sauce, and was very impressed with the aroma when I fried the garlic, and even more impressed when I tasted the end result. I'm not an expert on olive oils by any means, but I generally know what I like and what I don't like, and ZOE really does deliver. This is a premium first cold press olive oil (the highest grade of olive oil) and it is very delicious!

Yes, that is correct. I buy many things on amazon, and 99 percent of the time it is good. I checked the code on bottom of the can and it was made in 2000. As I writing this it is 04/08/2011. Olive oil does not get better with age in a tin can. I went on the zoe website to see how to read the code on the bottom of the can. On the zoe website click on blog at the top right hand side. It had on my cans the l= lot number, 00= year olive oil was made. I called Amazon right away to report this to them, and explained where I found this information. They agreed with me and issued me a complete refund. I don't blame Amazon for these old olive oil cans, but I do blame Zoe (New York City based Company). They supply Amazon, nationwide and slipped some old stock through thinking no one would notice. Guess what I'm from New York City , I know how these guys operate. Zoe may be good Olive oil , but check the codes often. You can find the code information on any Company website.

I used to to work in a professional kitchen and this was our e.v.o. of choice. like the description says it is a well balanced oil with a slight hint of pepper, i'm not a huge fan of overly peppery olive oils(which this does have some at the end but not over powering but unless you actually try this by the spoonful(yes which i have done in my own personal taste test comparing olive oils) to me thats the only way you really get the peppery sensation on the back of your throat,if you use it for bread dipping the pepper finish isn't as strong, it has a great up front olive taste that will hold up well(with a nice sprinkling of sea salt to boost flavor!)l as a finishing oil on top of eggs, fish , salads and works great for vinaigrette and is great to cook with too!, the small size tins are perfect for the kitchen and provides protection from light, the size of the tins also make them great to give as a gift!

Price is better than supermarket specials for a very decent olive oil. Good flavor and color and good for all-around usage. I use tremendous amounts of olive oil and have not found a better cost/quantity/quality balance.

This olive oil is awesome, and a steal at this price! The flavor is great- the only place I've tasted better olive oil is at a few nice Italian restaurants! Get the Amazon subscription and it drops to just over $8/liter, which is a great price.

Good olive oil.
From the Zoe website blog: ___________________________ We have a new lot code system, which was brought into effect this year. Here's how to decipher them: The first four digits identify the bulk lot number. The next two digits are the year that the oil was bottled, and the final three digits correspond to the day of the year that the oil was bottled, using the Julian calendar. For example, if you come across the following lot code on the bottom of your tin, this is how you would decipher it: L-000111052 Bulk Lot: 0001 Bottling Year: 11 Julian date: 052 (February 21st) This means that the oil was bottled on Feb 21st of 2011. It doesn't expire until the end of Feb, 2013!! Olive oil is good for at least TWO YEARS from the bottling date, and can last for longer if it is stored properly (away from direct sunlight, at room temperature).

I am pleased with the color, taste and packaging of this product. The innovative spout makes it easy to pour, and the tin is a good shape/weight for pouring, too. Great product at a great price.

I grabbed this on a special because it was such a good price for a quality olive oil. When I first tasted it, I was somewhat disappointed, because it had a strong "green" flavor, like the olives hadn't fully ripened. I relegated it to cooking and foods that it would be mixed in with, like hummus. Over time, I have grown to like it more, and now occasionally even use it for drizzling on salads and other foods where the olive oil's flavor is a stand-out part of the dish.
I usually drizzle a little EVOO on top of hummus when I serve it along with kalamata olives, feta cheese, tzatziki and tabbouleh. Mmm, one of my favorite meals! I use the Zoe when I make the hummus, then use my favorite 'Nunez del Prado' Flor de Aceite Olive Oil Glass by La Tienda, for the drizzle. I have bought it in a 1 Liter tin at my local upscale grocery store, but it is more expensive than the Zoe. I discovered Nunez de Prado when I asked them to let me have an olive oil tasting (like a wine tasting), and this one was by far my personal favorite. The special addition you get by drizzling the oil over many different foods really adds a lot of dimension and flavor, so you really want to get one that you love. Bottom line: I would definitely recommend this oil for the price, it is very good quality, though it's not my favorite. |
