My home has two Zoeller pumps in the pit: a Zoeller M53 and the 507 Basement Sentry. Coming home from out-of-town one weekend (during which we received about 5 inches of rain), I arrived with the battery alarm in the basement going off. Upon checking the state of the pumps, it turns out the M53 was obstructed, but the basement was completely dry. The alarm went off because the battery was draining...this meant that the 507 did its duty when the M53 malfunctioned. Since this incident, the M53 has been functioning fine. I glad I invested in the 507!

The supplier was very responsive to the order and it was delivered in about a week. If you have a sump pump system that moves any volume of water, power failures are a concern. This product gives you piece of mind and provides everything necessary from a good name brand (except battery) for a minimal installation. They claim the system will run on battery power for 7 hours continuous, longer, depending on duty cycle (duty cycle is the time off compared to time on, for instance, 1 minute off and one minute one is a 1-to-1 duty cycle and would run for 14 hours, according to the paperwork). The instructions show an installation for a 36" deep sump well. I didn't have nearly that amount of vertical room and had to space things more closely together vertically. I had to glue in the one-way valve (as per instructions), but would have used splicers if I had more vertical room. The instructions direct you to glue in the motor as well. I would recommend buying a rubber splice kit so that you can remove the motor. At least by installing a splice on the motor, the valve can be replaced without replacing the motor. Overall, good product, I just wouldn't recommend blindly following the directions and gluing everything for maintenance reasons.

last weekend I installed it with diehard battery. as I test it, it seemed to work and yesterday, the power went out and we had basement flood. after much of googling and study the manual, I have learned it was airlock that caused it not to work. For some reason, zoeller has a round cover for water intake and that was causing the air not to escape from it. so I took the cover out and as I test it, It worked beautifully. So watch out for the round plastic cover that cause air lock. other than that, I am pretty confident that this thing will work next time.

This is a great little pump, but I have one modification that I would make to the installation. The standard installation of this pump with the supplied fittings calls for gluing the pump into a 1-1/2" PVC tee. The problem is, there is no way to remove the pump without cutting the PVC installation if you were to have a bad pump, and if the built-in, fifty-cent check valve/flap on the pump itself were to fail, there's no way to access it inside of the tee, even though it appears to be a replaceable part. So the pump is ruined. Instead, glue the pump into a 1-1/2" male threaded adapter that has been screwed tightly into a female threaded adapter glued into the tee. That way, if the pump needs to be removed for service, it can simply be unscrewed. Or if it goes bad, it could be replaced by a simple plug in the tee.

peace of mind!...enough said....but I guess i need 20 words 2 write a review... I've lost power b4 during a storm ...no power 2 run sub pump + Rain = BAD..love it. I can sleep through the night not worrying if i lose power am i gonna wake up with water in my basement. If i lose power battery back pump kicks on and alarm sounds.

I purchased this system and had it professionally installed 18 months ago. When I just tested it because it's spring and the sump is filling fast, it was non-operational. The Aquanot battery (Zoeller's brand) ran dry and failed. It is a wet marine battery that the water evaporates from. You have to add water to this battery once a month. Who has time for this kind of maintenance, especially if you install it in a seasonal home? I took it to Sears and they said it was completely discharged. I replaced the battery with a sealed DieHard.

Equipped with a new, fully charged battery, I proceeded to test the backup pump. It hums but doesn't discharge any water at all. Good-bye pump.

The only parts I'm keeping on the system after one year are the battery charger and the battery case. The rest is junk.

Fast shipping. Great service from Plumbing Planet. One small problem was quickly resolved by the Customer Service department. Backup pump installs easily if you follow the directions. Time will tell, but the Zoeller pump appears to be a great solution for a backup system. I will look to Plumbing Planet for future plumbing needs.
