Amazon.com Product Description

Zojirushi's Ms. Bento Lunch Jar is a great, efficient way to pack food. Made from stainless steel with vacuum insulation, the lunch jar is durable and will stand up to daily use. Equipped with three inner containers, each with a lid, the lunch jar offers ample storage for food. It also includes a forked spoon and a convenient carrying bag with loop handles. Each of the three containers is microwave safe, but lids are best left out of microwaves. A nonstick coated washable inner container makes it easy to keep the lunch jar clean.

Product Description

Zojirushi's Classic Bento Stainless Lunch Jar in Ultra Black provides an excellent way to safely and conveniently pack lunch where a microwave or a refrigerator may not be available. You will also appreciate the "greenness" of packing a lunch in our jars, instead of using a paper bag or disposable container.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great update to Zojirushi's bento line! May 7, 2008
I have several lunch jars from Zojirushi -- Mr. Bento, Mini Bento, and now this updated version of the Classic Bento. All the containers are great in terms of reducing costs spent on eating out, minimizing the garbage of packing lunches in disposable containers, and even helping with portion control for weight loss.

So while they're all great, I gotta say that of the three Zojirushi lunch jars I have -- the Classic Bento is my favorite! While I love the four containers that come with Mr. Bento, there's always a lot of concern about staining them. They're a light grey color and are easily discolored by things like tomato soup or pasta sauce.

The Classic Bento's containers are a very dark grey (darker than they look in the Amazon product picture), meaning that stains just don't show. Brilliant! In addition, both the main entree container and the side dish container are larger than the Mr. Bento's equivalent containers. So even though you have one less container, it's pretty close to the same amount of food space.

The lunch jar itself is sleek and black. Although it comes with a great insulated bag, I really like that the jar has straps attached so that if you don't need the added insulation, you can just toss the jar itself over your shoulder.

5.0 out of 5 stars Functional and fun August 18, 2008

The Bento is a great way to pack a lunch every day. The separate compartments are roomy. The bottom two have insulated tops and keep food warm (or cold) as needed. Pack the whole thing the night before, store in fridge, and the food stays cold all through the day. If you're trying to get away from sandwiches and processed foods, this is a great way to go! Leftovers, veggies, oatmeal, etc. work great--it's actually fun to try and be creative with the possibilities. There's room in the top of the bag for larger items that won't fit in the containers, such as fruit or an additional snack. Cleans up easily. Comes with a spork!

Edit as of 9/2011
I still have this item and still use it almost daily. The plastic bowls started to get worn and I was afraid of warming them in the micro given concerns about plastics etc since purchasing it. This is what I've discovered and wanted to share: Pyrex makes those little glass covered bowls--you may already own some. The 1 cup size with red lid, fits in the bottom of this bento. There is then space in the middle to put stuff that you pack separately, and then the 2 cup pyrex with the blue lid, fits perfectly at the top, the lid resting on the edges so it doesn't fall on the stuff in the middle. The Bento lid fits on top perfectly. I searched for glass bento appliances and didn't find any and then was delighted with this solution! I can micro in my glass containers yet they stay compact and insulated in the bento. Perfect. I still love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great product - just a couple flaws October 24, 2008

Alright, first off, I'm a month into this thing and I'm still liking it enough to use it so there's that said.

Now here's what's WRONG with it:
1. The lid is NOT insulated as one might expect. This means that your top container of food gets colder (or warmer) much, much faster than the rest
2. No clip, clamp, slot or other place to keep your spork should you decide to forgo the canvas case.
3. The clips that hold the lid on feel flimsy, though as stated in other reviews, they have yet to break so I suppose I might be picky here.

What's great about it?
1. The portion sizes are fantastic for me. I'm on a diet that encourages many small meals and these containers are a great size.
2. the overall build quality seems good
3. The concept is extremely good and does translate well into practice.
4. I've likely saved $200 in the month I've been carrying this sucker to work (still taking into account the price of the food I've been packing in it and the price of the box itself)

Good stuff!

This is a very cute lunch jar and it does keep the food warm. The dark color of the plastic hides the stains but not the smell!
