Expensive, but worth it for those who like humidity,

This review is from: Zojirushi EE-LAC50HA 3-Liter Warm-Mist Humidifier (Kitchen)
The folks who made this humidifier were not playing around. This easy-to-clean, easy-to-program, easy-to-set-up machine has changed my world. It is not very loud--no louder than other warm-air humidifiers I've bought before, you don't have to hold it under a sink to fil it, and there's no chance of it tipping over and spilling water all over your floor because of it's lockable cover. This humidifier is a lot like a rice cooker, with a huge display and a bunch of on and off settings.
You can set the machine so that it humidifies just for a few minutes, or you can set it so that it runs on high or low for just an hour or just two hours. You can also set whether it comes back on at high or low in four hours or in six hours. Oh my god, I love this machine. I will never try and reach my hand into some tiny space to clean off mineral buildup again. Cleaning this thing is like washing dishes.

I've tried many humidifiers over the years and this one is by far the best I've found, and well worth the price. It is easy to use, does the job superbly, and -- most importantly -- is super-easy to clean. (Tip: buy a 1-lb tub of citric acid from Amazon along with the humidifier. It's all you need to clean the device, will cost you only five bucks, and is enough for at least a year of use.) I highly, highly recommend this humidifier. I'm giving it to friends this year for the holiday season.

Zojirushi Humidifier,

This product is far more expensive than most of the common brands (Honeywell, Kaz etc..)
However it is worth the price. This is a warm steam humidifier, which i found better than cool mist counterparts for the winter season (it even helps relieve your breathing when you have a bad cold)... The unit is very easy to set up and maintain, and it can be cleaned very easily. It produces a large amount of steam, even on the LOW mode, On the other side, i found it a bit noisy sometimes, but nothing that will prevent you from sleeping. You can feel the "made in Japan" quality, and i am confident it will last a long time. In conclusion, this is a very good purchase.

I've used the cute animal cool mist humidifiers, and a Vicks warm mist humidifier, but this one has much more ease of use.
I love the fact that there's no removable tank to refill, love the carrying handle (my daughter brings the empty humidifier downstairs each morning), love the magnetic power cord. I haven't used the timer function. Yes, it does put out a lot of steam. However, that is what we need, so it doesn't bother me, I think it's great. It is by far the most expensive humidifier I've owned, and I never expected that I would be willing to pay so much. But that was before having a kid with super dry skin. Before the hassles of cleaning cruddy cool mist humidifiers, dealing with tanks and such. All the other humidifiers have tons of nooks and crannies I could barely get clean. I love that I can just buy the Zojirushi cleaner for this humidifier and not have to deal with bleach, brushes, and vinegar.

First, the downsides: It's not a thing of beauty. The controls are comprehensible, but they could be so, so much better. The cycling of the modes may very well wake you up. And the capacity is disappointing.
And the upside: It humidifies. It doesn't leak. And there are no consumables. In the world of humidifiers, you're lucky to get 1 of 3, much less all of them. One thing I was confused about when I bought this was *how* it humidified. Well, basically it's a pot of boiling water. Thus the need to periodically run through a cycle with citric acid to get rid of deposits. But yay: no consumables!

There are pros & cons,
This review is from: Zojirushi EE-LAC50HA 3-Liter Warm-Mist Humidifier (Kitchen)
I am very satisfied with this product. However, there are pros and cons of this product.
Con: (1) a little noisy. This humidifier "boils" water. Therefore even in a low setting, it is noisy. (2) it increases room temperature. it is good for winter but definately not for summer. (3) it lasts only 5 hours at most. Therefore, you should fill up the water container more frequently than other humidifiers. Although there are some cons, I still highly recommand this product because it DOES the job. Pros: (1) I have several humidifiers but this one is THE best. I don't feel dry in my room any more. It was expecially useful when I caught cold. Even if it lasts only 5 hours, I didn't have a problem. Because it significantly increases humidity, even after it was turned off my room did not get dry. (2) It increases room temperature. I didn't need to turn the header up to a high setting at night - of course it lowered gas bill. (3) So easy to use! cleaning and filling up water in the tank are extremely easy.

Don't waste your money on a honeywell/crane !,

I've lived on the East Coast for nearly 6 years. It seems like I'm buying a new humidifier every fall since the honeywell and the cranes keep failing every year. The cold evaporative honeywell has a honeycomb wick that grows mold by month 3, so you have to buy these replacements. The warm honeywell, has those pads that you have to replace and it leaves a mineral crust that you have soak in vinegar then scrape out every couple of months. The crane ultrasonically evaporates the water and the minerals which leaves a fine white dust on your computer tv and furniture, and I'm sure in my lungs.
The worst part with all of these humidifiers is that you have to fill up the water tank that is too heavy for anyone but me to do. This Japanese design is the best! If the kids can water a plant, they can fill up the humidifier. Dad no longer has to do it. Cleaning involves, two tablespoons of citric acid, a pot of water, press the clean button, wait 2 hours. Dump the water. That is it!!!!!! If this thing lasts more than a year, it is well worth the $160 bucks, and will deserve 5 stars!

Not too loud for a warm mist humidifier and it doesn't make the irregular "glug, glug, glug" sounds like humidifiers with inverted tanks. I've had trouble in the past with an inverted tank leaking so I am glad that the design of this unit makes leaking less likely.
I wish there were more settings than just "low" or "high" but an happy with the overall design and build quality.

This is the second Zojirushi humidifier that I have purchased, so I do have experience owning the first one. I purchased this 2nd one for my daughter's bedroom. It does a good job at humidifying a large room, as expected. The humidified air comes out warm, if not hot, which is always welcomed during the winter. What sets this humidifier apart from the competition, besides the price, is the ease of use, solid structure, and durability. Lets face it, most of us have purchased several humidifiers over the years because they break and do not last more than 3 seasons. You can expect to keep this one for much longer than that. It is virtually mess-free, minimizing the water drips that are so common during the refilling process of most other dehumidifier in the market. The power cord attaches via a magnet, so that if you trip on the power cord, it will just come off the humidifier rather than causing a spill of hot water. It is a similar mechanism as seen on Apple's Mac laptops. I am considering purchasing a 3rd one.

Powerful humidifier; easy to clean; VERY loud,
By AK (Somerville, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Zojirushi EE-LAC50HA 3-Liter Warm-Mist Humidifier (Kitchen)
If I could give half stars, I would rate this as 3.5 stars. If it weren't so noisy I'd give it a 4 or 5.
I started looking for a new humidifier after I realized that I had left some water in my old humidifier and mold grew in it. I tried cleaning it but tossed it because I wasn't confident that I'd really gotten it clean. Most humidifiers are a huge pain to clean so the ease of cleaning was a very attractive feature. I also thought the magnetic power cord was genius. I almost knocked my old humidifier off the table several times because the cord barely reached my power strip. -Noise- Unfortunately, it's VERY loud and I have to wear earplugs when I run it at night. It does an incredible job of humidifying my bedroom and also heats the room up - a plus on cold nights but not so good on warm nights. There are two settings - standard and low. There seems to be no difference in noise. Build up in the container can make it louder so it needs regular cleaning. For a product this expensive you would think they could have put more effort into making it a bit quieter. -Capacity- Even on low the humidifier runs out of water after several hours and doesn't make it through the night. I live in New England where the air is dry in the winter. It would probably last longer if I got the humidity up earlier in the evening and refilled it before going to sleep. -Cleaning- I find the lid a bit hard to detach so most of the time I leave it on when I am dumping the leftover water before refilling. It's heavy and hurts if it closes on your fingers. You'll definitely want to get the Zojirushi cleaning packets. Zojirushi ADC-05 Electric Dispensing Pot Cleaner 1 Oz.(28 gr.) (Shop around - you may be able to find a better deal.) I didn't realize that cleaning is recommended every 1-2 months. Build up happened very quickly for mine and I tried scrubbing it with a sponge but it was useless. Cleaning is really easy - all you have to do is mix one packet with warm water in a separate container, pour it into the humidifier, top it off, and press the Cleaning button. Brilliant. The instructions are in the manual. They don't tell you how long the cleaning cycle is because it "varies depending on the amount of water, water temperature and room temperature." It takes at least one hour for mine to clean. Note that it is very hot when it's done so you may have to wear gloves or wait before pouring the water out. -Space- Unlike other humidifiers, this one needs to be located on the floor, not on a table. It doesn't take up too much space but it needs to be away from walls and furniture so depending on your room set up this could be a challenge. It was for me. -Bottom line- If you are a light sleeper who can't wear earplugs, I wouldn't recommend this humidifier. If you need a humidifier for daytime use or can sleep through the noise, I would recommend it. It's very powerful and has prevented my sinuses from drying up and bleeding (a common problem if I forget to start using a humidifier when winter arrives). It's a very good quality machine and doesn't feel cheap like other humidifiers. |
