5.0 out of 5 stars This bento is perfect for the way I use it
After reading the other reviews, I think how you react to this bento box depends on how you use it. Personally, it's perfect for me. I'm a short woman who doesn't eat a massive meal for lunch. 3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad!
Got this Zojirushi lunch jar for my son to daycare everyday. The size and love is perfect. However, by the time of lunch, food is not that warm already. Little disappointed on this.

After reading the other reviews, I think how you react to this bento box depends on how you use it. Personally, it's perfect for me. I'm a short woman who doesn't eat a massive meal for lunch. I have snacks in the morning and the afternoon. As a result, the lunch portion size is exactly right for me.

Additionally, I have a kitchen at work where I can heat up my food, so I use the thermos capabilities to keep my food chilled until lunch, instead of keeping the food warm. So no issues with the food getting too cold to quickly either.

I love the fact that it diversifies my diet by having the three different compartments. I also love the fact there's room in the bag to put my two snacks or a can of diet soda in addition to the thermos.

Not all of my meals have been chopstick friendly, so I'll switch those out with a fork or spoon when needed, but the little holder thingy in the bag works just as well for that.

In summary, I love it and really have no complaints. It rocks!

4.0 out of 5 stars Small Little Lunch Jar, August 25, 2008
This review is from: Zojirushi Ms.Bento Stainless Lunch Jar, Aqua Blue (Kitchen)
This lunch jar is pretty small, the portions work out to be no larger than two coffee mugs. This is probably meant for someone petite by nature as the amount of food it can hold is probably too small to fuel an eight hour work day. However, the design is pretty good for being compact but it's a bit hard to remove the bottom container. This is mostly made out of plastic, but the pretty durable type. It comes with a decent tote, overall a pretty good value for something that will last a few years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Used as directed, works perfectly., January 22, 2010

I used as directed (heated food in the morning, outer container filled with boiling water for several minutes) and the lower container was quite hot at lunchtime about 6 hours later. The upper container, containing items that had been refrigerated overnight and packed in the morning, was room temperature.
I've carried a thick soup a few times and had no trouble with leakage. The bottom container is not watertight, so don't invert the container or overfill. Broth soups probably wouldn't work well unless you underfill slightly and are sure to keep the container stable.
The bag is quite roomy, with enough space to fit a canned drink or other items.
The portion sizes are quite reasonable for an adult woman of average size and appetite, assuming you are packing reasonably calorie-dense foods. This wouldn't be a good size for a salad or sandwich, for example. There is enough space to pack such items on the side.

I ran out of lunch ideas long time ago, and I feel bad giving my 7 year old cold sandwiches everyday during the cold winter months. My boy doesn't eat salad, so he hardly had any veggies at lunch. Everything has changed since I purchased the Ms Bento. Now he gets a warm entree as a main course and a healthy serving of veggie as a side.

The bottom bowl keeps food very warm even after 5 hours if you follow the instructions (preheat the container with hot water prior to putting bowls in). The top bowl keeps food room temperature at serving time which is perfect for the veggies so they won't loose too much nutrients due to the heat. Ms Bento is the perfect size for my son, and this two bowl model is easy enough for him to handle.

Three things to keep in mind:
- Preheat the container with hot water prior to use.
- Only the bottom bowl retains the heat.
- Bowls are not leakproof, so cannot use with soup. If you really like to bring soup, go for the other stainless steel version of Ms Bento.

I bought this for my 5 year old son. So he can bring his favorite Macaroni & Cheese and some fruit to school for his lunch.
It's good for kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keep those School Lunches HOT!, September 23, 2010

This review is from: Zojirushi Ms.Bento Stainless Lunch Jar, Aqua Blue (Kitchen)
The Zojirushi Ms. Bento Stainless Lunch Jar is everything I hoped it would be. I send it to school with a 7 year old girl and she is thrilled to have hot lunches. Although the instructions included with it are not in English, it's pretty self-explanatory. Before I put any food in it, I pour a cup of hot water in the Lunch Jar (with all the containers in it), and let it sit closed for a few minutes, before putting her food in it. (Obviously, dumping the water out first).

ALthough other reviewers have said that the top container goes down to room temperature, we have had it stay nice and warm--the perfect eating temperature. The bottom container does stay hot at least for 5 hours (haven't tested it further).

Even though the price may seem high, believe me, it was definitely worth it to us, especially with a somewhat picky eater and a peanut allergy. Instead of scrambling around, scratching your head for something to send for lunch (that would be okay cold), being able to send a hot lunch is just terrific!

We've had no leaking problems (and we don't even use the lunch bag it came with, as she has her Hello Kitty Lunch Bag) Just keep it upright, although, don't panic --we've had it on its side before and no leakage! :)

TO me, this was the greatest thing I could've given myself, as again, it opened up so many more possibilities for school lunches. (And my little girl couldn't be happier!)

My grandmother bought this for my son (1st grade) for Christmas and we used it throughout the winter to send hot lunches to school. He's already looking forward to taking it again this year! He can open and close it by himself and he says the food temperature is "just right" at lunch time. I do preheat it with boiling water for about 10 minutes (I just boil a little extra when I make my tea in the AM.) and warm the food before I pack it. It does take a little longer, but that's a good trade off for being able to send hot leftovers. The only downside is that some of the kids at school decided the carrying case looked like a purse, so he takes it in his regular insulated lunchbox. Otherwise, it's very popular at school and some of the other kids have gotten them, too.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice size, nice looking, poor insulation, December 27, 2010
This review is from: Zojirushi Ms.Bento Stainless Lunch Jar, Aqua Blue (Kitchen)
This is a well made lunch pack, that is attractive and easy to carry. Don't tip it, it will leak. Also, it will not keep your food warm, so plan on using an ice pack and reheating.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfecty Petite!, November 21, 2011

I love this lunch jar. It's perfect for people who don't eat as much. I didn't like the blue bag it comes with, even though it's obviously the perfect match for it, cuz it didn't stretch, which I needed to put extra stuff so I bought one of those byo Built NY lunch bags at Target and it is compact enough to fit in there! My only complaint is that I couldn't buy it in any other color, but apart from that, it's awesome!
