5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Machine for Rice and Price!, May 2, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Zojirushi NRC-18W Deluxe 10-Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer (Kitchen)
This is by far the best Rice Steamer available on the market today. It steams rice like a champion. The ease of use (no LCD screen and various buttons to learn) and the price makes the NRC-18W the best. Unless you're making an appearance as a challenger on Iron Chef, don't buy the big 20 cup models. Those could feed some small third-world countries. Plus, the 5 cup models are usually to small for a family. Seven to ten cups can do the job.

The excellent feature about this product is its ability to keep the rice perfectly steamed for up to twelve hours! You can make rice in the morning and it will be ready for you to eat when you get home. Its built-in "fuzzy logic" maintains the rice at the optimal consumption temperature. I kid you not on the power of this machine, especially when sometimes people will eat at different times during an evening.

Making rice and bringing it in the car to a friends house is also easy with this machine. The lid securly locks into place and only opens when a button is depressed to open it. The retractable cord is also a nice convience. The pan is easy to clean as well.

If you're considering buying a great steamer ... try an excellent one that will last you for a long time. Your family and friends will comment on how good the rice you serve is. I did a lot of research on what brand and model to buy because rice is a big part of my family's diet. Plus, we got tired of the lame, rice drying (rather than steaming) thirty dollar models from K-mart, Target and the like.

You will not be disappointed with this purchase!!!

If you follow the very simple instructions this is a fool-proof (and let me assure you that I am an excellent test candidate) rice cooker. Simply use the accompanying measuring cup, fill with water to the markings on the side of the drum and presto...the cooker turns off when the rice is perfect.

I use it primarily for sushi rice and if you plan to do the same, I would recommend buying a cheap plastic strainer (with fine holes) to rinse the rice with instead of having to do this manually.

If you are considering the 20 cup model, don't bother unless you plan to open a restaurant. I've never done more than 6 or 7 cups and larger models are adjusted to do small batches well, i.e., 1 or 2 cups.

Lastly, I did own a Black and Decker rice cooker which was basically worthless compared to this. All my experience and feedback would suggest that this company is so far superior, it isn't worth considering other brands.

I purchased this rice cooker two years ago and use it several times a week. The quality is excellent and it is extremely easy to use. You add your rice and water, close the lid, and push the button to start cooking. It automatically switches to the keep warm setting when it is finished cooking, and you have perfect rice every time. It is also very easy to clean. This is one product I will never do without again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still working after all these years!, February 8, 2002

My sister-in-law gave me her Zojirushi rice cooker after having it for seven years! She wanted to buy a smaller one that would fit in her kitchen a bit easier. When she told me how long she had had the first one I couldn't believe it! I had gone through about 3 cheap rice cookers in the past two years and who would have thought I'd get the best performance out of a seven year old machine??? Heres to another seven years! Spend the money - it's worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice rice, June 8, 2003
This review is from: Zojirushi NRC-18W Deluxe 10-Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer (Kitchen)
As I make lots of rice, I have used many cookers. There is one of these at my office. It is a very nice cooker. It does not seem to make the steam mess others I have tried do, and when you liftopen the top to check or stir the the rice the condensation goes into a little compartment on the side. This is nice, just remember to empty the compartment so as not to have the waste sitting around. The pot cleans up nicely to. I only wish it had a ringer or buzzer on it to tell you when it to let you know it was finished.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Rice, July 26, 2003

Perfect white rice every time. As a filipino I'm required by law to have a rice cooker. We've gone through two lesser quality cookers. This is by far the most reliable on the market. We haven't tried making brown rice or wild rice with this just good old white sticky stuff. It does what is supposed to...make great rice every time. Futhermore, the rice is kept warm for hours without burning the bottom.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great rice, June 17, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Zojirushi NRC-18W Deluxe 10-Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer (Kitchen)
I like this product a lot. It makes our rice come out sticky like it should and keeps the rice warm and ready like it should. My only complaints are:
1. The rice burns if I remove some of the rice and save the rest for later.
2. This might be due to the fact that the rice cooker was sent in its original package without any cushioning. My first rice cooker was dented beyond belief and I returned it. My second rice cooker has a very minor dent in it when it was shipped two-day. I would strongly recommend that you look very carefully at your rice cooker when it arrives to make sure that it is not damaged.

But beyond that, I love my rice cooker. If you are looking for something that will feed a crowd and is very simple to use, this will fill the bill.
