Review of my new rice cooker,

This review is from: Zojirushi NS-VGC05 Micom 3-Cup Electric Rice Cooker and Warmer (Kitchen)
I did a lot of research prior to choosing the Zojirushi rice cooker and luckily for me by the time I was ready to purchase the company had come out with this model NS-VGC05 which is very compact and perfect for one person or even two. It does an amazing job of cooking the rice to perfection. The instructions were easy to follow especially for being a novice. I am anxious to try the different settings for different rices and cakes. I called the company to find out about the built in clock. The instructions did not explain whether you have to have the unit plugged in to recharge the clock. The answer is that you do not have to have it plugged in. It is a lithium battery that has a 5-6 year life and then you would call the company directly to have it replaced.
The clean up was really easy again by following the instructions. I highly recommend this product. It is definitely worth the money paid!!!

I am Japanese/American, and have eaten steamed rice all my life. Have owned a rice cooker almost all of my adult years. This is my second Zojurishi cooker. Owning a Zojurishi is so way worth it. Why? It just plain cooks the rice as well as it can be made. I few years ago, I relocated to a far away local and eventually purchased a run of the mill rice cooker, and never liked it. Finally purchased another Zojurishi and now think I was silly for the time I did not have it. Full features and cooking options are cool too. The only draw back on my current model is that it does not have a run off for excess condensation, like my other one had. This does not affect the quality of my rice, just a noticeable difference. I shopped and Amazon offered an excellent price with free shipping. No brainer.

This cooker works very well. The rice cooks perfectly and does not stick to the container making it very easy to clean. The main cooker is designed well. There is a small indention around the opening to collect the steam. Although it takes 45 minutes to cook the rice, it's well worth it.

awesome cheesecake! yes, you heard correctly!,
This review is from: Zojirushi NS-VGC05 Micom 3-Cup Electric Rice Cooker and Warmer (Kitchen)
My boyfriend bought this cooker - it rocks! He's made two cheesecakes with it (follow the recipe in the enclosed booklet) and both were awesome! Rice is perfect, as others have noted, but the cheesecake is tasty and fluffy enough that I'd say that alone is worth the price of the cooker! Will try the spongecake recipe soon! A good investment - small enough to carry easily and share with a friend...boyfriend just said you can carry it from bar to bar!
Buy one and enjoy great sushi rice and cheesecake in the same night - same cooker!

I'm no stranger to rice cookers, I eat rice every day, I've had them for most of my adult life. My former rice cooker was a Panasonic fuzzy logic cooker, it was great, it lasted over 12 years and always made great rice, but the nonstick was flaking off the inside bowl and it was time to retire it. The new Zojirushi NS-VGC05 is hands down the best rice cooker ever, the rice is always perfect, the design and construction are top notch. You simply can't find a better rice cooker, the Zojirushi is perfect.

I have had the 5-cup Zo for more than a year and bought this small one for my son who is in grad school and eats a lot of rice because of digestive troubles. They work, reliably, consistently, easily. The only annoying aspect is the special measuring cup - why not just give a normal measurable quantity?? Write this down in your manual in case you lose the special cup - a Zo cup equals 3/4 cup.

This gives perfect rice. And swell steel cut oats. Just remember that, though little and cute, it is not a microwave, and some patience (45-90min) is required.

Nice and compact. Too much water dripping from rid and you need to wipe it every time you open the warmer. Older version of rice cooker/warmer had little cup outside to receive warter but this one deposit warter around rim. Wish it had better way to receive escaped warter.

OK, I can't stand it any longer! Why are so many people freaking out about the little cup? It's 200 mL, or in between 3/4 and 1 cup dry measure. Most people eat more than they need to, it doesn't hurt to have a little smaller portion. And here's a secret that any of us from traditional Japanese families know: Put the rice in the cooker. Put in enough water so that the water comes up to the 2nd knuckle of your index finger (with the tip of your finger touching the top of the rice). It always works, we used to do this in our old rice cooker that had Japanese writing only, it doesn't matter what the amount of rice is; I don't know how/why this works but it does, and when I meet someone that grew up eating rice everyday like I did, they all seem to know this trick. In regards to the timing-who cares if the rice is done before the rest of the meal? Since there is that handy keep warm feature, just make the rice way ahead!! The reason it takes longer in the rice cooker is the traditional soaking time, helps make softer fluffy rice. If you get stick-um on the bottom of your rice, it's prob. not a good quality, or you didn't rinse it, or you need to fluff it when the timer says it's done with the cute song. They say max 4 hours for keep warm, but for about 30 years I've kept the rice warm for longer than that and have no problems with food poisoning or bacteria. If you can keep stuff warm in a crock pot all day, why not rice? My mom is Japanese and highly recommends this cooker. For those interested in Ayurvedic foods, it makes great Kitcharee (although not the soupy kind, put your spices and veggies and dahl right in with the rice, if you add too much water it cooks until the water is steamed out, takes about 45 min.) I love my big Zojirushi cooker so much I'm buying this smaller one for at work so I can have my hot soup or rice cooking and ready by mealtime!
