5.0 out of 5 stars risotto made easy, April 22, 2007
By
This review is from: Zojirushi NS-XAC05XR Rizo Micom 3-Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer, Stainless (Kitchen)
This thing is amazing when it comes to making risotto. I've only had it a short time but have made about a half-dozen batches of risotto and all have been successful beyond expectations except for one batch with peas in it which was a little underdone. The best so far has been risotto con gorgonzolla, but the batches of risotto milanese I have made have also been excellent.

However, I'm still working out cooking regular rice in it. The batches I have made so far have been a little sticky but they are getting better (I reduced the water I used). But since I bought it primarily to make risotto I can't complain too much.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy it for its looks, but the rice is good too, November 24, 2008

This review is from: Zojirushi NS-XAC05XR Rizo Micom 3-Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer, Stainless (Kitchen)
When I lived in Japan, I had an old Zojirushi rice cooker. I've wanted a new one for a long time and finally purchased the Zojirushi NS-XAC05XR Rizo Micom 3-Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer, Stainless. I first saw the yellow model in a magazine article and thought it was very cute. I followed the advice of one of the reviewers and purchased the rice cooker via warehousedeals.com. It was more affordable. They happened to have the stainless model, so I purchased it. In many of the photos it does not look shiny, but it is shiny like a mirror.

This is, as you know, a small rice cooker. I usually make 1 or 1.5 cups for two adults and have leftovers. Since I had used a rice cooker before, I found this model easy to use. I have tried both cheap white rice and CalRose and both taste good. This model does not have a brown rice setting, but I have been making a mix of half or two thirds brown mix and I think it comes out good. I have not tried the steamer or made mixed rice and I don't plan on ever making Risotto.

I think this is a great looking rice cooker, which I will leave out on my counter when it is being used at least every couple of days. I think it makes good rice and it is so convenient to be able to set the rice and do something else while it cooks. I time the cooking of the rest of the meal to be done when the rice will be done.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect function and apperance, May 8, 2007

I had been looking for a rice cooker since mine was broken. Since I saw Zojirushi Rizo Micom I decided to purchase it right away. Zojirushi is the one of the best companies for rice cookers. Besides, they made a stylish rice cooker this time. This rice cooker makes perfect fluffy rice without scorched part at the bottom of the pot. It is very easy to clean up. The only thing I wish is to shorten time to cook rice. It takes 50-60 minutes, but has function to set up time to start cooking.
Anyway I am very happy with this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Rice Cooker, October 12, 2010
This review is from: Zojirushi NS-XAC05XR Rizo Micom 3-Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer, Stainless (Kitchen)
I took this rice cooker out of the box and first thing I noticed is how well it looked. It just wreaks of quality. I had some Basmati Rice so wanted to experiment making one cup figuring I would screw it up somehow. I followed the directions from the included manual. Washed and rinsed a few times and then added water until it went to "1" on the Rice/Water line which is scribed inside the inner bowl. I pressed the 'Rice' button and off I went. Approx 30 minutes later I hear my Zojirushi NS-XACO5XR Rizo beeping. I open, fluffed the rice with the enclosed spatula and snuck a taste. OMG it was the best rice I have ever made in my life. The rice literally was perfect on my first try and I am an old bachelor! I took the rice out and then steamed some broccoli using the steam feature. That took around 22 minutes on steam and the broccoli also came out perfect. I give this 5 stars and would give it 6 stars if i could.

I really enjoy my new Zojirushi Rice Cooker. It does what it says it does, but you have to read the instructions. I thought I did, but after the second batch, I had figured out how to use it. Everything is great, but the instructions could be a little clearer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Expensive, but it works, February 3, 2010

This review is from: Zojirushi NS-XAC05XR Rizo Micom 3-Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer, Stainless (Kitchen)
I really hesitated to buy this rice cooker because of the price. If I hadn't found it on [...], I probably would have purchased a less expensive one. But it does a really good job, it's far more attractive than any of the others I've seen (which means it will stay on the counter and get used more often), and it has the options I need (sushi, risotto and steam settings). I've always used a cast iron pot for rice, and never had any complaints about the results. But I have to admit that it's nice to put this on a timer and come home to finished rice, kept warm until I'm ready to eat it.

My only real complaint is that no user's manual was included with it. I nearly returned it after one attempt to use it, because I thought it wasn't working correctly. I used the water to rice ratio on the rice package, and expected to find finished rice in the half hour that the package said it would take to cook. At half an hour, I still had crunchy rice and just barely hot water. After checking Zojirushi's site to see if they had a user's manual, I decided to give it one more trial before packing it up. I'm glad now that I did, but I wish a manual had been provided with it in the first place.

This is a good little cooker. The only small problem is there is no automatic off function.

This is a cute little cooker that looks great on my counter AND can cook rice like nobody's business! Worth every penny! The finish of the cooker is actually a shiny chrome, not a satin/matte chrome like it appears in the picture, but who cares? It does the job, and looks good doing it! What more can you ask for?

The machine works great although it is very slow, even to steam vegetables. The instructions aren't worth the paper they're printed on. Experimentation works best.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best gadget in my kitchen!, November 8, 2011

This review is from: Zojirushi NS-XAC05XR Rizo Micom 3-Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer, Stainless (Kitchen)
I use this twice a day, almost every day.

In the morning, it makes the most perfect oatmeal ever. Add ingredients, push the steam cook button, and hot breakfast 10 minutes later.

In the evening, I make easy one-pot meals. Add rice and water, top it off with a handful of chopped veggies and a chicken breast or other meat, push the rice button, and about 30 minutes later a hot tasty meal.

Clean-up is so much easier than my old rice cooker ... basically just need to rinse out the insert.

Highly recommended for singles who want to eat healthy but don't want to spend a lot of time cooking and cleaning.
