5.0 out of 5 stars The floral print is key
Growing up in an Asian family, we weren't about to mess around with cheap crumby rice cookers. The Zojirushi 10 cups through the years have kept me well fed for 25 years. If you treat it well (i.e. no metal on the nonstick), they'll last forever. If you don't eat rice every day or don't have a large family, this unit might be overkill. You may think about a 4 or 5 cup...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great rice - lacking timer
The rice was as terrific as others have said, but I realized the cooker didn't have the delay timer as I needed. Thought I could get by without the timer, but then I saw a rice cooker that had that option and gave it a try. The rice was just as good, so I returned the Zojirushi. The return was very simple through Amazon. I am very happy with the service I received...

You may think about a 4 or 5 cup. You can, of course, buy this one too. My mom owns 3 rice cookers. If you ever go to an Asian food market, you'll see that practically every rice cooker comes in floral print. I don't trust a rice cooker without flowers on the side. =)

PRO:
Easy perfect rice every time
Can feed a small army
Comes with everything except rice and water
Will last forever with a little care
Floral print

CON:
Not for people living alone
You need to know how to make rice
Kinda pricy, but worth it if you eat a lot of rice

5.0 out of 5 stars Good rice every time., March 26, 2002
This review is from: Zojirushi NSRNC-18A Automatic Rice Cooker and Warmer with Floral Imprint (Kitchen)
It is surprising how much rice my family uses. When I leave work and pick up the kids, I am already scheming to find a way to put a meal on the table in 15 minutes. Rice is a pretty versatile choice, so it finds its way to the menu two or three times a week. Make a little sushi on Saturday, and suddenly one is going through five pounds or so a month. Sad to say, though, it requires a bit of attention. Get distracted by the chicken, and, oops, there goes the side dish! Comes Zojirushi to the rescue with foolproof rice. Rinse a couple of cups of rice, add water, and push one button. Minutes later, the rice is ready with the dinner. The texture is good, and the machine keeps the rice warm without burning it. Two cups or ten cups cook up equally well. Cleanup is a sanp, as the bowl slides out easily. A handy self-retreacting cord keeps it compact when I put it away later. One caution: keep the kids away from the vent while it is on, lest they are burned by the steam. I keep my ricemaker handy on the shelf, next to my bread machine, also a Zojirushi. The two of them are my favorite, and most often used, kitchen time-savers.

My mother has been using hers for 20 years. I own this rice cooker and its the only one I would ever buy. Its good for korean style short grain rice which is really sticky. Western style long grain rice works well too. Once I made a paella in it and it was not bad! You can also add pre-soaked beans to your rice.

I think the new "fuzzy logic" models are not worthwhile. I just want to put in the rice and cook it!

There is only one button, so its easy to use. Use the measuring cup that comes with it and then add water up to the corresponding line on the inside of the bowl. For instance, for 3 cups of rice, put water up to the 3 cup line. I prefer moister rice so I add more water, like a 1/2 measure more. The chinese method of adding water to the first knuckle of your finger works too.

Another tip, this is an awesome non stick bowl, but it scrathes really easily. NEVER EVER, put a fork or even a spoon in it. Use the spatula that comes with it. Also never scrub it, wash with a little soap and soft sponge. I mean it, never scrub or you will ruin it right away.

I agree with the other reviewer, its all about the retractable power cord. Why dont all appliances have this?

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the money, February 18, 2004

This rice cooker has really impressed me. I became very frustrated with my inexpensive one that spewed starchy water on my kitchen counter and resulted in rice being consistently stuck to the bottom. This rice cooker did not do either one of the things I just mentioned. The rice is perfect every time. This rice cooker delivered on every promise it makes. Being Asian, rice is an extremely important part of my life. Rice is a blessing and represents all the blessings in life. This rice cooker's non-stick pan allows me not to waste one grain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Freakin' Rice in the World, June 1, 2002

No, seriously.

- 10 cups. You won't always need it unless you reproduce like a bunny, but it's GREAT for those times when you want to bring something to the party or are entertaining. Anyway...it keeps fresh for twelve hours. Make some in the morning and eat it throughout the day's meals!

- Yummy. Rice is evenly and well made. The thing stays sealed really well, so you can make the rice early without problem. The thing is super enough that you can throw stuff in with the rice for added flavor. It doesn't have the super-high-tech settings of the "fuzzy" models, but who needs it? Want sticky rice...add more water, sucker! Better yet, get a different kind of rice.

- Convenient. Three words: retractable power cord.

One thing to note: Prices vary widely on this series of cooker. Look around at the various models (floral print, white, whatever)and see if someone around here is selling one used.

I have used other rice cookers, but this one has spoiled me.
Stop using instant rice! Just start the rice in the morning and
when you are ready for dinner, the rice is warm, moist and ready
for that quick stir fry or mexican burrito recipe. You have never had such fresh tasting rice ready to use when you get home
tired and face cooking dinner. I use basmati, jasmine, brown, or pearl. All come out just great. And I use my Zojirushi as a roll warmer when needed. Works great. This is not a vegetable
steamer, not reccommended for that, but the best rice cooker.

5.0 out of 5 stars It Makes Perfect Rice!, June 17, 2005

We eat rice 4 or 5 times a week. We were looking for a solution that would include all types of rice. We heard about these, but never used them. We bought this based on its reviews, followed the instructions and have had perfect rice the first time & every time. It's great for special rices like Jasmine or Basamati. It also makes regular supermarket brand rice taste great. The result always has a wonderful texture to it. I doubt that you will be sorry having this cooker.

I love my Zojirushi Rice Cooker! I've had a couple of Hitachis, and and Aroma, and probably something else - and this one beats 'em by far.

5.0 out of 5 stars I have owned this one for 5 years and it's still going!, January 11, 2004

I'm not Asian but my husband is. Because of the inlaws my children love rice and seaweed. I was given this rice cooker by my inlaw to make rice for her son, well it's still going strong and I have not had any problems. The unit is beyond easy to use and I make 4 cups of rice as a standard for our family and keep it plugged in for 3 days and the rice stays warm and ready to eat. That's the way my Mother in Law did it, and I have done the same without any problems.
Oh and never, ever use any metal items in the rice cooker or you will ruin it. The plastic spoon is really all you need for fluffing your rice once it's finished cooking.

We have been using this cooker for more than a year (excellent performance by the way) and the electric cord got struck, its not retracting and is all over the kitchen counter. I called up customer service to get intstructions on how to fix it, to my surprise they are sending the whole electric cord assembly with no charge for me. Very Nice! Our next cooker will also be a Zojirushi for sure.
