4.0 out of 5 stars A Useful, Intellectual Tool, February 6, 2000
By
Special Reporter (Seattle, Washington) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Zolar's Encyclopedia of Ancient and Forbidden Knowledge. (Paperback)
The first thing that caught my attention was the title. The cover is also attractive, and in spite of my religious beliefs, was drawn to the overall classical outline of its contents.

Anyone who dogs this book is obviously uncultured, uneducated and borders on idiocy. Only a fool hates knowledge, whether it is helpful or not. At the time this book was written (1970), much of what is in there was unknown to the average person. I am a Christian author, and I respect others' rights to free speech, thought and conscience.

The knowledge in this book is helpful to understand the belief systems of other relgions, other thought patterns and different forms of logical thinking. While not every presented topic can be accepted as irreversible "truths" or point to the the key to salvation (which it does not), the book does serve as an educational tool in Liberal Arts. There are also clues to the mode of operation of the Enemy of Man.

The author is highly educated, as evidenced by his clean sentences and knowledgeability. It is pleasant to read after the onslaught of late 1970's and 1980's shallow, mass-market "self-help" books that were loaded with outdated buzzwords. This book is also well written, and contributes to the overall knowledge of the life-long scholar, or to anyone who loves and respects knowledge. It helps break the barriers of two-dimensional thinking.

If you manage to find this book, get it. Every now and then you will find yourself saying, "I've never heard it put that way before. Interesting point." Even if you disagree with the expressions or convictions of Zolar, you will, at least, have a better idea of how to use good English. It is not a sin to read a book of knowledge, even if it is called "forbidden" or "secret." The author assumes that you know nothing about his subject at first, and it is nice to read a book that is not so presumptuous. It's like a tutorial.

After reading this book, I have a better understanding of metaphysics and a greater respect for different forms of knowledge. What's wrong with that?

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb!!, December 30, 2003
By A Customer
Too bad it's out of print now. The book was given to me as a Christmas gift, as I am a professional tarot reader and book collector. I have been looking for something like this to add to my collection for years now. The section on palmistry is excellent. I was able to hit on some very accurate points with a friend using the book to read her palm. I can't wait to try and read the tea leaves. I will certainly be reading this from cover to cover more than once. A great reference material for the novice as well as the professional.
