I was first introduced to Zolar through his excellent dream book, which, in my opinion is the best dream book I've seen so far. Now with this book, he tells you all those things you always wanted to know: what happens if you do this, do that, what it means when you see this, or see that. It is all about just as the title implies: omens, signs, & supersitions. And what I love about it (and why I gave it a full 5 stars) is Zolar does not hold back, he gives all the knowledge on each subject. There is a lot of wisdom here. I will be buying all of Zolar's books because all of them are so excellent. If you are interested in wisdom, the occult, or knowing what it really means when a black cat passes you or your nose itches, definitely get this book.

This is one of the more entertaining books on superstition that there is to read (along with "Encyclopedia of Superstitions" revised version by Christina Hole). Often "scholarly" books on this topic number and list the beliefs, and do so often without much context. However here we have an alphabetical series of topics, each of which has an interesting and very readable section about each. And speaking of context, the superstitions here are collected from around the world. For example, under the entry for "cat" one will find sentences beginning with "Some West Africans believe...", "In New England..." and "In Burma and Siam..." This makes the book even more interesting. And at nearly 400 pages there's a lot here, not quite as lengthy as some books on this topic, but certainly longer than most. All of that said, I have one drawback concerning this book, and that is the lack of any references. Where did Zolar get these beliefs? Certainly a bibliography at least would have been nice. Reservations aside, I'd recommend this one to get a more rounded view of superstitions around the world.
