5.0 out of 5 stars Zombies + Thrash=Awesome, May 9, 2006
This review is from: Zombie Attack (Audio CD)
The thing about thrash, as with most forms of music, the best bands are more than likely the harder to find and more obscure ones. Tankard is a prime example of that.

With bands like Slayer and Metallica hogging the 80's thrash spotlight a bunch of bands have since then gone unnoticed, or have gained slight respect and a devoted fanbase...Exhorder and Vio-Lence come to mind.

Tankard's 'Zombie Attack' is, seriously, an album that needs to be rereleased so that all of those who were around then and missed out get a chance to pick up on one of the better obscure thrash albums, and for the newer kids who don't want to pay $35 for one cd.

4.0 out of 5 stars The most underrated band of the German thrash metal movement, March 2, 2008

This review is from: Zombie Attack [CASSETTE] (Audio Cassette)
Tankard...rare to have one of their CDs, even rarer for the casual metal fan (or even the fanatic) to have followed one or more of the obscure German thrash bands to have graced the planet. (They still make albums despite the lacking press to promote their existence.) The 1986 Tankard debut "Zombie Attack" displays a band whose primary concept revolved around being a giant homage to alcohol and all the things that come along with it.

The band here basically sound like a cross between Exodus, early Destruction, with a slight punk influence. While most bands opted for the production style that over-compressed the entire album, Tankard did not. The former leads metalheads today to have to turn their stereo up as high as they can just to hear the entire product on the transcribed digital format. (Think of all the early Testament records.) Tankard's final studio product is punchy and everything can be heard perfectly.

The guitar takes the cake on being the best instrument. Catchy riffs galore. Simple and to the point. Album is recommended to every new Thrasher coming into the fold, especially those who like homage payer to old school Crossover/Thrash band, Municipal Waste.
