I hate to admit it, but sadly, I've seen this movie one to many times. I can't help it, it cracks me up every time I see it. By no means is it the best film ever made, in fact it's far from it. I don't know why people think this movie is even worth wasting your time on. I thought that surely all these people who have seen it and gave it good reviews couldn't be wrong. But this doesn't fall into the "so-bad-it's-good" category, it's in the "so-bad-it's-a-painful-experience" category. Bad acting, bad film quality, lack of plot, and sad excuses for special effects...

I hate to admit it, but sadly, I've seen this movie one to many times. I can't help it, it cracks me up every time I see it. By no means is it the best film ever made, in fact it's far from it. Cheesy acting, oddball story line, and very campy humor, yet it's a GREAT B-Movie. It doesn't have any "moral" or lesson to be learned, there's no deep back story, it's simply an entertaining comedy that does exactly what it was made to do, it makes you laugh, and some times, it makes you laugh really hard.

It starts off with a pretty decent pace. At times it slows down a bit and there are even moments when it seems nearly out of place. Though at times the pacing is a little slower than one would expect an action packed comedy/horror, it clearly makes up for it in the satirical comedy and in your face humor though out.

The first "effect," when zombies attack in the opening scene, doesn't really seem all that convincing. But by no means does it set the precedence for the film. Overall the effects are very impressive and at times surprisingly realistic.

Clearly a very low budget project, the acting is a little off, but this reviewer feels it really adds to the whole "B-Movie" experience. All in all, though the opening "effect" isn't exactly convincing the majority of them seem to go off with out a hitch and really make one glance away form the screen in disgust, only to look back and see something horrifically funny.

Though it's a hilarious campy B-Style Movie, Zombie Campout is not for everyone. Those who cannot appreciate the in your face style humor, those who faint at the site of blood, or folks who just don't know how to laugh, need to avoid this film. But I would highly recommend it to those who enjoy satirical humor as well as horror fans alike.

Zombie Campout, funny, somewhat stupid at times, and entertaining on a completely different level; it has all the makings of a cult classic and a little bit more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Zombie Heaven!, May 15, 2003

This review is from: Zombie Campout (DVD)
I was hesitant at first when I ordered Zombie Campout, but being a fan of zombie cinema, I couldn't resist. When looking back with nostalgia to the era of when cheesy monster movies dominated mainstream cinema, one cannot help but think of poor special effects, terrible acting, and an overall poor quality of film in general - which makes them so great. Zombie Campout pays homage to this bygone time with a monster movie as entertaining today as it would have been 30 years ago. When four teenagers decide to go camping for a week of fun and relaxation, a freak meteor shower awakens the living dead from their supposedly eternal slumber, and they wreak havoc on the campsite. With amusing irreverence, the film jumps from one zombie feast to another while our heroes attempt to escape the peril that lies before them. Seemingly shockingly horrific in some scenes, Zombie Campout has its tounge planted firmly in cheek throughout the adventure and is well worth your time if you look back longingly at the days when zombie films were considered top-notch entertainment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ed Wood would be proud!!, March 15, 2004

A bloody, gory, and very goofy entertaining B-Movie that has some pretty hot chicks in bikinis running around and being attacked by zombies!! It's great!! Of course I've seen Plan Nine from Outer Space and Bride of the Monster at least a dozen times... But this is WAY BETTER!!

First of all, if you're looking for acadamy quality, stay away!! You've been warned... But if you want goofy, silly, bold and bloody entertainment, that's really quite stupid, Zombie Campout is a funny movie. The acting is okay, the effects aren't half bad, (I love the arm ripping off scene!)the story works, and the plot is typical of a zombie genre movie.

Here's the deal, get a bunch of your buddies together, get a couple cases of really cheap beer, don't tell 'em too much about the film, (maybe show them the DVD case,) slowly get wasted!! Add in the movie, equals GOOD TIMES!!

Lots of Friends + Cheap Beer + Zombie Campout + More Cheap Beer = Great Times!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Zombie Campout Review, May 28, 2003

Just like all the rest, I was hesitant at first. If history has taught me anything, it's not to watch zombie movies anymore. However, when I was told about this movie, the curiosity got the better of me, and I watched it. I was glad I did. It was your typical zombie movie, with strange effects and humor. Fun movie to watch at a sleepover.

Bad acting, bad film quality, lack of plot, and sad excuses for special effects are all fine and acceptable - when the movie is still good because of it. If you like zombie movies, then don't watch this. This isn't a zombie movie. It's a couple of idiots who got a video camera and found some air-head girls to frolic about in tight T-shirts. These things do not make a good horror film. Watch it if you like, but I will never expose myself to this pitiful excuse for a "cult classic" again.

4.0 out of 5 stars John M. Davis, a cast member review, January 29, 2006
This review is from: Zombie Campout (DVD)
While I had no clue about movie making, or acting, at the time I gaind so much experience while making this movie.

1. Now and forever I READ the script before accepting a role. Joshua had his work cut out for him: he wrote the script in a week, his director was canned by the 2nd week of production, and his production team left him out to dry. Which is why most of the acting is stale at best, including myself.

2. Always make sure that you have the finances secure BEFORE filming: Joshua's father had a huge problem backing the film, in the end, because there was nudity and the FX guy had a huge battle with Joshua over his payment.

3. Make sure that everyone is on board with your concept. The lack of nudity with Bunny and Tammy was that they had no IDEA, or so they thought that they would actually have to take their tops off, they didn't want to. I understand the decision, but if that was the case then they shold have never been cast.

4. If you tell your actors to pause before starting dialoge and plan to cut/edit the pauses out later, then you should do so, NEVER leave them in, because we all look stupid.

Now for some fun facts:
Trever didn't drive the boat
The car scene's took the longest to shoot
The intermission scene was actually shot, and that was the first day that the principle charaters met the four ladies, no tops!
The film was shot just outside of Flowermound on lake Grapevine.
We shot the interior scenes for the tents and the house at Joshua's house.
Trever farted during two of the breaks of the tent interior shots. Everyone heared it!
The makeout semi-porn scene is a loop.
Trever wore frankenstien shoes to compensate for my height.
The shovel scene that ended up in the movie was the last shot that we did for that sequence, not planned, and I was dog tired after.
The blood mark left in the parking lot, Billy Bob's dead dog, might still be there.
The park ranger was the 'Zombie' trainer.

I would like to thank everyone involved, especially Josh. I hope that he learned his lesson of wearing too many hats. After the first director left there was no drama on the set. The DP was a badass, and I would gladly work with anyone, cast and crew, again. It was a joy to make this movie and I hope that you enjoy it and if you don't then I totally understand, criticism is always welcome.

I don't make a dime if you buy it. But if you do the suggestion has been to watch it with an intoxicated frame of mind.

This one was so bad it didn't even make it as a parody. Buy Shaun of the dead and have something to enjoy! Seriously, don't throw away your money on this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's a campy fun zombie movie, August 4, 2005
This review is from: Zombie Campout (DVD)
I laughed my ass off during this movie. It's up there with Necropolis Awakened in that it's a low budget zombie movie, but better in that the special effects are more meritable...except for the occasional prosthetic arm that flies out every once in a while. The one liners and little humorous bits throughout it are what really make this a fun movie to watch. The cover makes it look like it's a classic '70's T&A horror flic...but there is no T&A in it at all...which was a little disappointing. But still, I had fun watching this movie. : )

I had the pleasure of meeting Misty Orman and director of Zombie Campout at a Fangoria convention and thought their movie looked like it would be worth purchasing. I brought it home and threw it on and loved every minute. The script is corny, the acting is less than average, and the effects are actually quite impressive. But the thing was, it worked. I loved every minute because I'm a fan of the b-movie, and if you're into academy award winning films, stear clear. This ones for the genre fans, so keep up the good work guys.

2.0 out of 5 stars A review from Zombiefans!, November 28, 2007
This review is from: Zombie Campout (DVD)
Ed Wood moves to modern day!

1) THE ACTING: Low / no budget fare, ya know what you're gonna get. I think the actors that were zombies in this movie seemed the most dedicated to their roles.

2) PRODUCTION: So-so. There were a lot of issues that I noticed. Out of focus shots, a buzzing / humming on the soundtrack during certain scenes, and choppy editing. A lot of the jokes and one liners were indeed funny. The zombie make up was pretty basic: pale discolored face with raccoon eyes. The blood and gore was surprisingly good. It seems that a chunk of the budget was spent on buying fake arms, legs, facial applications, fake heads, lots of blood, and the usual bag o' guts from the local butcher shop.I thought what happened to the forest ranger was pretty gross looking.

3) THE ZOMBIES: The usual crowd of "Romero shamblers" kept this movie hopping. And the zombies weren't picky, either. They eat children and dogs too! I did find it interesting as our group of heroes is attempting an escape from the convenient store that they took big bags of ice with them, and when faced with an oncoming crowd of zombies, they would scatter the ice all over the ground, and the zombies were helpless against it and all fell down! Other than that, it's the typical zombie genre fare.

4) THE CAUSE: Radioactive meteorites from a meteor shower crash into a cemetery (which is right next door to the campgrounds) causing the dead to rise as flesh-eating zombies.

5) NUDITY: Considering the type of movie this was, and all the hot chicks running around the woods in bikini tops, there was absolutely NONE. I think that if there had been some nudity in this movie, it would have helped play up the cheese factor of it all.

Imagine if Ed Wood had a grandson who followed in his grandfather's footsteps in making cheesy, campy "B" movies. This movie is bad, shlocky, cheesy, campy fun. I can't say that I absolutely hated it. I think this is one of those movies that you watch on a rainy day with your friends over, having pizza and beer. It's at least worth one viewing, but remember, with friends and LOTS of beer!
