About the Author

Isabel Atherton is an author, literary agent, and director of Creative Authors, Ltd. When she is not helping her authors, she likes to write illustrated books herself. She is the author of Zombie Cat, an illustrated adult humor book, plus two more picture books coming in 2014.

Bethany Straker is an illustrator and designer. She has illustrated for various magazines including Bliss and Disney Girl at Panini Comics, GoGo's Crazy Bones at Titan Publishing, Running Fitness, and Runner's World. She collaborated with Isabel Atherton on her first adult picture book, Zombie Cat, which was published in 2012.

Zombie Cat is an entertaining little well illustrated picture book (it's about a third the height of a regular picture book, but the same width). The colourful illustrations by Bethany Straker are fun and even at times funny. There's nothing in the writing or illustrations that would give even the wussiest of kids nightmares. The fun pictures accompany a simple zombie tale revolving around Tiddles, a pet cat whose days of lazily sitting around and chatting up the feline ladies, comes to an end when an infected mouse from a nuclear power station accident sinks its teeth into him. As a reanimated corpse he still possesses a lot of the mindset of Tiddles but of course his owner doesn't want him in the house. But will he have a change of mind?

This is an uplifting tale of the value of friendship and companionship between a pet and its owner in uncertain times. Any fan of cats or zombie fiction will enjoy this one. It is only picture book standard length, you'll read it in a few minutes but it's of such high quality you'll probably pick it over and over again. If you're after more zombie fiction in picture book form also check out That's Not Your Mommy Anymore: A Zombie Tale by Matt Mogk. It's never too early to prepare children for the inevitable zombie outbreak and these sorts of fun picture books are a great way to do that.

I'll definitely check out The Bad Easter Bunny and whatever else this author writes in the future.

This is a cute book about a cat and his owner. It's short but funny. A great gift for a cat lover and zombie fan! The illustrations were very well done.
