... I found Zombie Cult to be one of the best times I've ever had watching a zombie flick. It's one of those movies that are great to pop in when you have like minded friends over. It always has people cheering when someone gets a leg ripped off or gets wacked to a pulp with a meat cleaver. It's a crowd pleaser for the gore hounds.

2.0 out of 5 stars Umm, what?
C'mon people, let's be serious. There is no way this is a 4 or 5 star movie. I know the people who worked on this movie had little to no capital to make this movie, and the fact that they had some nice gore and so many people on the project is commendable.

However, a coherent story and good dialogue costs nothing and that is what this movie lacks. Gory, shoestring...

That's not to say that every one I have shown my copy to has liked it though. One of my friends was offended by the anti-organized religion theme and a couple of female friends have never made it pass the scene in the beginning where a woman gets her bare breast ripped off by zombies. Obviously, it's not a movie for the uptight or easily offended. As for the rest of us, the ones who think Basket Case and Street Trash are great, we are the ones who will laugh with devilish delight while the pompous horror fan run out the back door to puke.

Zombie Cult Massacre is not for the loser who's only idea of a good horror film is naked lesbian vampires making out. It's not for the trendy teeny bopper who's idea of horror is a pretty cast of WB teen soap opera stars and an N'SYNC sound track. It's not for pompous old timers who are trapped in 1970's foreign horror flicks and have never been able to open up to anything current. It IS a horror flick for people looking for something bloody, gory, gritty, offensive and mean. It's something new for fans of old exploitation and drive-in flicks. It's something that I love to watch, and if your anything like me, you'll love to watch it too! But don't take my word for it, do a search for it on the web and see what others are saying, and then decide for yourself....

4.0 out of 5 stars Obviously not the same movie., October 22, 2001

I've seen this film and enjoyed it a great deal. I've read the review below this one and I'm wondering if we've seen the same movie because I never saw any scene where the actor lays on the ground and entrails are pulled out from under the actors shirt. I've actualy watched this about 12 times and only remember seeing appliance type of effects that were done quite well. Some of the zombie make-up effects arn't quite as good as others, but the gore is all top notch.

As for the Brunet in the movie, who's name is actualy Amy something or another, she is a cutie, but I don't know if I would say her acting was good enough to base a whole movie around her. I guess it depends on wether your wanting to watch an action/gore flick or a soft core flick. It's obvious some people don't get enough late night Cinemax.

4.0 out of 5 stars That's it, no more shot-on-video horror for me, January 9, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Zombie Cult Massacre [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Well, I did it again. I read the glowing reviews of this movie on various horror Web sites (even the reviewer on "Mortado's Page of Filth," who admitted that he was prejudiced against shot-on-video films, gave it a thumbs-up), and went and bought the movie, since I couldn't find it in rental places. And now I'm stuck with another tape that I can't sell on eBay, even to recoup part of my losses...

Well, the movie isn't all bad, and I'm giving it four stars because I have no wish to disparage the efforts of filmmakers who obviously worked hard and didn't have much money. But since it IS for sale on Amazon, the truth must be told to other customers.

Here's what was good about the movie: First, certain visual effects worked. There were some computer-generated effects that looked pretty cool (especially what I assume was Satan's lair). Some of the acting was pretty good for such a low-budget film. And then there was that member of the cult leader's "harem," the brunette listed in the credits as Cari Minster--WOW! If you can get an actress who looks like that to be in a movie called "Zombie Cult Massacre," I would think you'd take full advantage of it and make her the star of the film! She was definitely the best thing about this movie.

Here's what was bad: Although the movie is being given credit for having an "original" plot, it's actually lifted from Romero's Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead. There's a climactic battle involving a biker gang (from Dawn), and the middle portion of the movie, the longest part, is set in a confined environment (in Day of the Dead it was an underground military complex, here it's the cult compound.) As in Romero's movies, all the action is packed into the first and last 15 minutes. The problem with this plot structure is that the middle section really drags. And then there is the all-important element, the GORE. It doesn't work. Granted, it's a zero-budget film, but if I'd been the filmmakers I would have put ALL my effort into making the deaths as realistic and creative as possible. Instead, they used the following technique: the actor lies on the ground and is surrounded by zombies. The director yells "Cut!" and the film crew puts raw meat & various "entrails" under the actor's shirt. Then the director yells "Action!" and the zombies tear into the actor's shirt, and we get 30-45 seconds of the zombies "eating" the guy's insides. Even for a low-budget film this is very cheesy and unimaginative; in fact, there's really no excuse for it.

Well, like I said, this movie wasn't terrible, and it's way above the level of supposed b-movie goremeisters like Tim Ritter and Todd Sheets. But it could have been way better. There IS such a thing as effective shot-on-video gore, but until the people at Dead Alive finally get off their lazy behinds and put out Andreas Schnaas's "Cannibal 2000," I'm swearing this genre off...

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best low budget zombie movies..., March 29, 2005
By
This review is from: Zombie Cult Massacre (DVD)
I must admit, I really enjoyed watching this movie. The story is about a couple who are traveling on the road and get attacked by some zombies. They are rescued and taken to a place which is deemed safe. What they soon start finding out is the "safe place" they were taken to is a cult led by a supposed religious man, Jeffrey. I don't want to give too much away so I will stop there. But, what I will say is there is over the top gore especially for super low budget they had. The acting is so-so but what else do you expect from a low budget zombie movie. Also, there is good surprising twist on how the zombies are/were created. I have seen all the other zombie movies, and although this is no Dawn of the Dead or Let Sleeping Corpses Lie, it definitely belongs in any diehard zombie collection. I highly recommend it. NOTE: The DVD comes with a comic book inside but I suggest to watch the movie first, then read the comic book...

It's a pretty good movie if you can get over the bad acting. It has some pretty good graphics and is a fun movie to watch and the devil part is way out in left field but that's the point is't it.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Zombie Cult Massacre [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This movie is great. Its about a cult who worships zombies and the devil and some guy joins the cult. He ends up being the leader by killing the old leader[lol]. Some biker gang comes to kill the cult they have a war zombies get loose. It ends up to a 36 body count. This movie has every thing a zombie flim needs fleash eating, exploding heads violent gun shots, a crazy cult, a mad scienctist and humor. Whoever said SOV sucked deserves to get eaten.

On the lines of great Cult classics as Return of the Living Dead and The Arm, I feel this film comes out with flying colors. I do consider this to be an Independant film. But the action is fantastic, the stunts, the acting, all are outstanding. I love films that push the limit and stay away from 'the norm', in the light of Hollywood churning out the same story with a different Hero. Great Job.

Considering the lack of quality in a lot of today's horror movies (Stir of Echoes and Sleepy Hollow are the only two good ones in recent years) its nice to see that the low budget market is keeping the tradition of quality horror alive! This movie is very profesionaly made considering the budget, and the make-up effects were well done and delightfully over-the-top. There is also an original plot and significant social Commentary to be seen here as well. Zombie Cult Massacre comes highly recomended.

However, a coherent story and good dialogue costs nothing and that is what this movie lacks. Gory, shoestring budget B movies do not have to seem like they were written by a deranged person. Look at what George Romero did with "Night of the Lving Dead". Almost no budget, and he prodced a classic. It's films like this that give these low budget movies a bad name and made zombie movies a laughing stock. Invest in a screenwriting book next time, please.

And when your main character is flying around in Halloween fairy wing costume in front of a green screen, it's time for a rewrite.

Why are there zombies in this movie?--how did they come into existence?--and why does the devil have floppy boobs?

The quality of this movie is worse than the usual low-budget fan-fare, virtually unwatchable on any standard. I loved Shatter-dead and the Meat Market films, but the production values on this heap are terrible.

The movie cares more about the members of a cult who spend fifteen minutes of the movie singing along to a band while the preacher 'jams out' and the rest of the movie jabbering about how it sucks not to have sex. Meanwhile, zombies are wandering outside the perimeter of their camp. Why isn't the rest of the world being eaten? Why are the dead back to life? The viewer never finds out, and I disengaged.

The computer effects on this are embarrassing and unnecessary. It looks like an arcade game from the 80's.

I was very let-down after watching this. It looks promising, the reviewers on the VHS are good, but I'm telling you...this movie sucks!
