3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the ZF 1 - 4 March 4, 2012

I have read the entire ZF series and really enjoyed the first 4 books but book 5 just didn't do it for me. Feel free to disagree, this is the purpose of feedback. I'll still buy ZF 6 but I have to say I was just not satisfied with this edition. Here are some of my complaints:

Not enough time spent on Tomas and Eliza. The opening starts strong and then there are only 3 very minor scenes. I liked the last section but this almost felt like an afterthought and relegated to the appendix

Mike is given new powers by Tomas at the end of ZF 4 and spends very little time figuring out how to use them and the physical strength and rejuvenation powers demonstrated during the fight with Durgan during ZF 4 seem all but missing in this book

For a team of hardened survivors they seem to regress in their survival skills and fairly quickly revert to a disorganized band. The whole series of vignettes with Josh and his mom is touching but where does it take the reader? No where!

Too much time spent with "B List characters" like Paul and Mrs. D and not enough with the more interesting people like BT, Justin and Tracy. BT spends most of the book on the back burner and the humor / banter between Mike and BT is all but missing in this book. I have always felt that one of the best parts of the series is the interplay between Mike and his family

Lastly, nothing really happens. I won't ruin the ending but lets be serious. Does anyone really buy how it ended?

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good. March 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book was a bit disappointing. It was way too short. Take out all of the "fillers" (stories from the past) and the actual story is only around 60% of the book. Did there really have to be a whole chapter about Mike and his buds going to a concert. The previous books left me laughing so hard I'd have tears running down my face. They were also nail biting. Not this time.

Hardly anything was mentioned about the Talbot clan in Maine. Did they run into any trouble getting home? Or was it smooth sailing? What was with BT this time? He spent most of the book sleeping or out of the picture. Other characters were mentioned more than Mike which I don't get. Mike and BT are suppose to be the comic reliefs of the books. The characters in ZF5 were a frog-haired disorganized, too. Did Aliza magically take their survival skills away while they were sleeping? Not much was mentioned about Tommy and Aliza either. Oh, and what was with the Josh and his mom storyline?

I love this series and I can't wait for book 6 but hopefully ZF6 will be longer (less fillers) and actually have some action adventure suspense going on.

3.0 out of 5 stars What happened!!?? March 14, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
First off, this is the first review I have ever written, but that should show you how strongly I feel about the Zombie Fallout books. I love, love, love them!!! This one, however, fell short of Mark Tufo's usual mastry of the Talbot family. Book 5 just didn't have the humor, development, and character interaction of the first four books. Three quarters of the book consisted of flashbacks of better times and the rest was a waste of Kindle space. There were still a few laugh out loud moments that you find in the other ZF books, but this one just didn't do it. And the ending.....What was that about??? I was so excited about this book and it fell flat. I hope Mark Tufo pulls hiimself together for ZF6 and gets it out soon!! We need more Talbot and crew!

4.0 out of 5 stars Mike Talbot books
I love the Mike Talbot character. The humor and sarcasm keeps me laughing. The fact that its the same guy in all these completely different situations keeps the character going.
