3.0 out of 5 stars A must for NOTLD fanatics., June 1, 2009
This review is from: Zombie Jamboree: 25th Anniversary Convention for "Night of the Living Dead" (DVD)
Zombie Jamboree (John Russo, 1993)

For a film by John Russo, who's been around the indie movie business for decades (and was involved with the most popular and influential indie flick ever made), Zombie Jamboree is an incredibly amateur piece of filmmaking. Granted, since it's a documentary, that shouldn't stop anyone who's interested in the subject matter from hunting a copy down, and I suspect there are a whole lot more people interested in the subject matter than the print run of this obscure, long out-of-print VHS would imply: it's footage from the convention held in honor of the 25th anniversary of one of the most influential movies ever made, Night of the Living Dead.

If you've seen con videos before, there's nothing here that will surprise you; a lot of footage of panel discussions and folks who look a whole lot different than they did when they appeared in the movie. As a con doc, it completely delivers; I'm just surprised that the guy who's written a number of books on film theory and practice (including The Complete Night of the Living Dead Filmbook and How to Make a Movie for $10,000) didn't try to do too much in the editing room to, for example, master the sound or polish up the edits. But the content? You can't go wrong. A must for fans of Night of the Living Dead. ***
