Editorial Reviews

TDWP,2010 Golden God Awards performer & nominee, are coming off of what's been a career year, with no signs things will be slowing anytime soon. It ended with frontman Mike Hranica deciding that before they'd create a new album, they'd release a 5 song EP. The band, who've made the covers of Outburn, Revolver and Alternative Press & toured with Saosin, Day To Remember, and Killswitch Engage, plan to tour in late summer and fall. Track titles are "Survivor," "Outnumbered," "Escape," "Revive," and "Anatomy."

Words cannot describe how cool this album is!

It's straight up brutal. I find myself holding my breath for much of the EP because it's so intense. The first time I listened to this album was on my way to school and it got me so amped that I could barely sit still through my management class.

The only downside is that it makes you a little depressed that there ISN'T a zombie apocalypse going on. But this album will certainly get you dreaming of one. Perfect for listening to while playing Left For Dead 2 or any zombie game of your choice.

Believe it or not I just got into this band tonight when I heard them on a local college radio station. I looked them up when I got home and immediately bought this album. It is brutal and insane to the point where I wish there was a zombie armageddon so I could turn on my iPod and go to work with this album as my soundtrack. I am really picky about this type of music- so if I liked it, I'm sure you will. head-banging-tastic/10.

Let me begin by saying I've never been a fan of The Devil Wears Prada. I've always thought their music left a lot to be desired, recycling similar progressions and structures. I saw a thumbnail of this album online one day, and was drawn in by the fantastic artwork on the cover. To my surprise, upon opening the image, it was TDWP! I wasn't doing anything at the time, and, hopeful due to the seemingly more mature approach in the art, decided to give the EP a chance. I downloaded it (my apologies; I pirated it, but you've my word that I paid for it soon thereafter), pressed play, and sat back. 23 minutes later, I stood up, awestruck, and started it back at the beginning.

I am also entirely sick of the modern day zombie fad. I'm sick of the creatures invading every game, book, movie, and piece of music I encounter, and find the concept to be completely overused and dried up.

I only use this preface to give the EP a fighting chance for those who dislike TDWP or this style of music in general. As one who truly disliked this band before, I can safely say that Zombie is EXACTLY what metalcore should be. Every band should hope to some day produce an album as powerful as this. Devil take everything they've been doing up 10 levels, and added in new elements masterfully. Most notably, they use external sound clips better than any band I've ever heard. Not overused and not ever taking the spotlight, TDWP work applicable sounds into appropriate places and accent their already-strong songs perfectly. They've clearly put in a great deal of thought here, paying close attention to structure and composition. There still exist the TDWP standbys - breakdowns and soaring clean vocals over the choruses - and rightfully so, but they're finally being used correctly.

No, that's not sarcasm. I seriously believe that this album is Prada's greatest work, and possibly their greatest album. That's quite an acomplishment, seeing as this is just an EP. Each song is unique and as brutal as TDWP has ever done. I've haven't taken it out of my car since September, and it gets played almost daily. I hate to say it, but I first pirated this album, and almost instantly bought it after that. You don't even need to try before you buy with this one. It's just fantastic.

The devil wears prada have definately outdone themselves with this dark masterpiece. 5 songs of sheer brutality that never let up! They have hints of black/death metal on this album and the keyboard creates a chilling atmosphere. The devil wears prada are just sick!

I've been a TDWP fan since the beginning and I have to say this is, musically, a great album for them. I say musically because this isn't meant to be a deep, artsy, thinking-man album like their other releases, but rather a straight-forward, fun, roller coaster ride through a zombie apocalypse!

Can't think of a better way to spend 22 minutes right now...

I've had this EP for a LONG time, and I finally got around to reviewing it. I love it. This probably some of their heaviest material to date, and it works well for them. Each song is unique, well thought-out, and equally as skull-crushing. This EP showcases an aggressiveness I haven't seen from this band since Plagues. Mike changed his vocal sound a little with this release, and for old fans it will take some getting used to, but eventually it grows on you to the point of liking it better. That being said, I firmly believe this EP was better than the follow-up album "Dead Throne". Somewhere between this EP and the full-length, Mike's growls lost their intensity. I also believe that album was not nearly as original as this EP, the songs on the album sounded very similar and it wasn't nearly as diverse as this EP. This EP has everything a metalcore fan could want, crushing breakdowns, brutal and complicated riffs, great clean and unclean vocals, and complicated song structure. If you're a fan of this band, then you NEED to have this EP in your collection. If you aren't a fan of this band, then this is a great release to get you accustomed to their diverse sound.Quick song-by-song analysis.

Outnumbered: Good song, not as original or well executed as other songs on this release, but well worth the listen. 4/5

Escape: Probably the most relentless and aggressive song on the relase, it will leave your ears ringing. Very well done. 5/5

Anatomy: My personal favorite song on the EP, this song seems to showcase everything from the release in one package. The opening guitar riff is great, the breakdowns are heavy, the chorus at the end is very catchy. Just a great well-rounded song that puts all the good elements of the other songs into 3:46 of pure awesomeness.
