5.0 out of 5 stars I wish Zombies ate MY neighbors, February 5, 2002
By
Jessica (Cincinnati, OH, USA) - See all my reviews
I've just recently become interested in the video games of my childhood again, and, while I thought of a lot of games long forgotton, Zombies Ate My Neighbors was one of my personal favorites. It seems that the premise of the game is terribly simple, but the game is challenging and fun.

There are 55 levels in the game, each one increasing in difficulty, and any horror movie character you could ever imagine. They try to attack your neighbors as you run around frantically, shooting at them with a water gun.

You can play a single player game, or team up with a friend, which I highly recommend- it gets things done faster, and you get killed less.

There is a version of this game for both SNES and Sega Genesis, and both are great games, but I prefer the Sega Genesis version. Either way, it's a great game, and you'll be glad you played it. I definately recommend this game to anyone who enjoys video games.

4.0 out of 5 stars a great zombie spoof, April 26, 2007
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Zombies Ate My Neighbors (Video Game)
This game is the first ZOMBIE game I ever saw. Before Resident Evil and Dead Rising was Zombies ate my Neighbors. Now the premise is that you play as either a boy, wearing 3D glasses or a girl that looks like she was playing baseball. You are armed with a gun with limited ammo and in every level you must save your neighbors before the monsters get them or you.

The levels are diverse and fun to play, from your backyard where you need to use trampolines to get over fences and find keys to unlock sheds to the mall where there are multiple floors and different shops to enter. The levels are all colorful and require different actions to clear.

The weapons are classic. Your main gun has a set number of shots so you need to collect ammo as well as find other weapons, like the sodas which you shake and throw to create a bomb effect. The weapons will make you laugh even as the zombies are chewing on you.

The enemies are funny, the zombies are green skinned things that slowly follow you and try to chomp. The enemies are all unique in their patterns and the numbers of them are massive, not to mention they continously respawn.

The neighbors range from babies, cheerleaders, old men, to even dogs. You must save as many as possible in order to clear the level. Many are out in front and will be eaten quickly unless you get them first and others are secluded and you will need to find a key or clear an obstacle to get them.

This game is 16 bit greatness and today I still enjoy playing this game, but my SNES is not working right now so i have to wait until I get a new one or get mine fixed, both of which I am too lazy to do. But when I do get it up and running again I will be sure to give this game a run through again.

5.0 out of 5 stars A different kind of game that is equally as great, December 28, 2001
By
jasenao (Dothan, Alabama, USA) - See all my reviews
Zombies Ate My Neighbors is a strange kind of game that isn't anything like any other game that's ever been made, at least that I know of. I guess you could call it a fantasy/action game, but it's more of an action game. You get to play as either a teenage girl or a teenage boy and go on a journey to rescue several people and dogs before they get terrorized by a zombie, werewolf, alien, or one of the many other kinds of enemies.

In Zombies Ate My Neighbors, you can play either a one player game by yourself, or a simultaneous game with a friend in which you will both play together as a team and try to eradicate enemies while searching for the hostages.

At all times, you will be equipped with a radar that you can bring up on the screen and use to see where a hostage is waiting to be rescued. Once you rescue the last hostage or once the hostage gets touched by an enemy, the level will be over and you'll be transported to the next one, provided that at least one hostage was saved.

The levels in Zombies Ate My Neighbors are all played in an overhead view, and you can move in any direction 360º. On the way, not only can you use a sort of squirt gun (the basic weapon), but you can collect and use other weapons such as plates, footballs, crosses with great power, cannons, weedeaters, apples, and so many other unique weapons.

There are also several other items that aren't weapons, but that can be equally as useful. Among these are pop-up clowns to keep an enemy busy, first aid kits to replenish your energy, and several others including different kinds of potions. One of these potions will turn your character into a big monster that can walk around and punch any enemy out, along with punching new gaps in barriers such as vines.

Finally, keeping to the originality of the game, Zombies Ate My Neighbors has a lot (at least 50) of various kinds of levels. You will be travelling to a beach full of jumping and roaming sea monsters, inside pyramids full of mummies, shopping markets, inside dungeons, and so much more. In certain levels, there will be a boss that you must defeat in order to obtain a skeleton key. These bosses range from a towering baby that is at least 50 feet tall, to burrowing monsters that resemble those from the movie "Tremors." After you pass certain levels, a password will come up that you can write down and save for easier passage at a later time.

If you want a fun game that isn't like any other that has ever been made, or if you know someone who does, Zombies Ate My Neighbors is a GREAT game to get.
