Book Description

From the author of the sensational Amazon.com bestseller, Alice in Deadland, comes another unique and action packed take on the zombie genre.

It began with stories of undead Taliban rampaging through Afghan villages, and faster than anyone could have anticipated; the darkness spreads through the world.

In a world laid waste by this new terror, four unlikely companions have been thrown together- a seventeen year old boy dealing with the loss of his family, a US Navy SEAL trying to get back home, an aging, lonely writer with nobody to live for, and a young girl trying to keep her three year old brother safe.

When they discover that the smallest amongst them holds the key to removing the scourge that threatens to destroy their world, they begin an epic journey to a rumoured safe zone high in the Himalayas. A journey that will pit them against their own worst fears and the most terrible dangers- both human and undead.

A journey through a wasteland now known as Zombiestan.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Dhar puts a completely new and unique spin on the typical zombie novel...Another unique trait this novel holds are the truly strong and well-developed characters. Unlike many novels of this type, the focus isn't solely on the walking dead and the havoc they reap, instead a tremendous amount of time is spent focusing on the character development, the evolution of the characters as they progress on their trek to safety...Zombiestan is truly a thrill-ride of a read. Don't let the zombies frighten you way from a truly impressive read."

"With Zombiestan, Dhar introduces a new an interesting twist to the classic zombie story...Zombiestan is very engaging, and incredibly easy to get caught up in."
-        Devourer of Books

"Zombiestan, with its international setting, non traditional zombies and fast paced action gives the zombie subgenre a fresh new spin and a novel that I feel can easily appeal to hardcore zombie fans and those new to undead literature...Zombiestan is an early contender for my favorite zombie audiobooks of the year, and one I hope gets the appreciation it deserves."

1.0 out of 5 stars Umm . . . wow. August 14, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I figured for 99 cents, how bad can it be?

Pretty bad.

Slight spoilers (I only made it like 5% of the way through before giving up in disgust).

Apparently mixing radioactive material, a virus, and another poison with the explosion of a missile results in a zombie virus. All right . . . I could somewhat suspend my disbelief and go with it.

But then we learn that the virus not only zombifies its victims; it makes them gung-ho terrorist jihadists who tie black turbans on after rising from the dead and then begin spreading the plague. I wasn't sure I'd read it correctly when he described waves of black turbaned zombies rampaging through America, so I skimmed forward and . . . yes. Yes, he did.

Take a pass on this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Crazy, different, and a very fun read! August 26, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I didn't know what to expect from this book, and it took me awhile to buy into the story and the characters. Once I was there however, I found this book to be very different from 'normal' zombie fiction. Zombiestan comes from an incredible imagination, and is probably the best edited download I've purchased this summer. Thank you, Mr. Dhar, for this outlandish, crazy, and downright fun take on Zombies. I look forward to your future works!

*****THIS IS NOT A SPOILER FREE REVIEW!!! IF YOU'RE PLANNING ON READING THIS - STOP NOW!******

I got this for free, when notified about it on Facebook. Being a fan of various genres, I thought I'd give it a shot. Much like watching any Saturday night movie on the SciFi channel, it's about four hours of my life, I'll never get back. The zombies, aren't, since they can run, talk and basically think. They can be shot to pieces, including head shots, and not go down. Add this to the somewhat thin characters and very basic action scenes, as well as the reason the zombies are created (original, but kind of silly) as well as the plodding plot, and this is just not a well done book. If this was the first draft, I could understand the problems (especially with ranks in the military, hey, hit Wikipedia, there's a whole list), but that's just careless, sloppy background work. If you're looking for a great zombie novel, grab Philip Nutman's WetWorks (no, I'm not the author, but I have read it several times) as well as others that are more worth your time and money.

More About the Author

Mainak Dhar is a cubicle dweller by day and author by night. His first `published' work was a stapled collection of Maths solutions and poems (he figured nobody would pay for his poems alone) he sold to his classmates in Grade 7, and spent the proceeds on ice cream and comics. Mainak was a bestselling author in his native India with titles published by major houses like Penguin and Random House and with one of his novels (Herogiri) being made into a major motion picture. In early 2011, he began to use Amazon to reach international readers through his ebooks and became one of the leading independent authors in the world with more than 100,000 books sold in his first year. Mainak is one of the top selling horror authors on Amazon worldwide and in March 2013, became the #1 bestselling Horror author on Amazon, momentarily unseating Stephen King. He has thirteen books to his credit including the bestselling Alice in Deadland series. Learn more about him and contact him at mainakdhar.com.
