5.0 out of 5 stars Top's K-Nex by a long shot!! Incredibly easy!!, August 16, 1999

Just an incredible set. The pieces are well shaped and fit together not only easily but logically, the pieces are color coded so there's no bending or frustration when they don't fit (like K-Nex) and the ball connectors are universal so you don't have to change them in order to add more.

I recently experimented with this set and found it very entertaining and addictive, your creativity can just take off and there's no limit!!

This construction set has been a staple in my elementary gifted classroom for nearly two years. The students love the creativity and impressive structures they can build. I love the fact that the materials require that you put a subtle twist into your thinking in order to succeed. But free-style construction is only the beginning! We have investigated the meaning and variations of tetrahedra, explored the shadows of student constructions, made bubbles that blow you away, and challenged one another to construction competitions. (Please don't tell my kids that they are learning!)

4.0 out of 5 stars Zome System Creator Kit, October 29, 2000

My son received this set for his eighth birthday. It was frustrating for him, as well as myself, at first as the rods have to really be pushed hard into the balls in order for your creations to not fall apart easily. Afer hours of working with the set we have found it to be truly contagious. He has made some really amazing "buildings" and never wants to dismantel them so the 900+ piece set is very handy to have. I have a hard time seeing the price value in this product. It appears to be a very inexpensive product to manufacture and it sells for a fairly steep price.

Zome is a great step beyond knex -- at least as far as geometry and shape exploration. Very durable and well made!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally Awesome!, July 13, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Zometool - Creator 3 (Toy)
I did a Summer School class on building Zome for four weeks. You might think that an hour a day for four weeks would make it seem pretty boring- But it wasn't! One day we had to build a bridge that would support 2 1/2 pounds and have a shoe box pass under it. Then, for the finals we had to balanceeven more weight- and it worked!

It's amazing how struts (the sticks) and nodes (the balls) fit together PERFECTLY! You can make cool things like bubble Blowers
out of them!

All in all, this is the best building projects out of all!

I bought Zometool for my 7 yo son because we were beginning an exploration of geometry, symmetry, and chemistry. We've explored that, and a whole lot more! Sometimes the whole family just sits around and....creates! Towers, rocket ships, domes, launch pads, neat shapes....whatever!

Minor issue with the ends of the rods breaking, but the documentation DOES warn you that you need to take care when disassembling your creations. Just be careful and you won't have too many issues.

Zometool is a great educational toy.

Yeah, right! Like that is why I got it.

Look, it is a lot of fun to make cool geometric stuff and then take it apart and do something else with it. Zometool makes it easy because it has a limited number of different parts that go together in limited ways, but ultimately you can do some fairly complicated stuff with them.

The Creator 3 set has plenty of parts to make it possible to do amazing things without having paid an amazing price.

The only complaint is that the box it comes in isn't perfect. On the other hand, I can't come up with anything better and it does keep everything in one spot and handy to work on.

So, seriously, I got it for the fun of it and I am glad that I did.

It has a lot of small, attractive parts, so keep it away from children who put things in their mouths. Most 6-year-olds could do some of the simplest projects with help, but I think that most kids will need to be older (8 or older) to enjoy it. Middle school and high school kids will enjoy making some of the most complicated structures.

I want another kit! This kit was not enough to build all the things that come to my head when I use it. I wish there were different colors of pieces because yellow, red and blue all the time is boring, yet this toy has a lot of educational concepts within.
You can even create decorative stuff for your place!

4.0 out of 5 stars Zome Tool - Pro, March 22, 2009

The quality is good although I notice when I build something like a Dodecahedron that one or two pieces never stay in - note that this is brand new and should 'not' do this, so, just be aware of this. Overall, it's a really cool tool to visualize geometric shapes - very pricey though!
