Zonda reeds take their name from the hot wind that races through the Zonda Pass in the Andes Mountains. The Zonda whips the growing cane back and forth, strengthening its fibers. These European cane rootstocks have flourished since colonial times in a region which has become famous for award-winning wines. Under the stewardship of two generations of the Gonzales family, the Zonda cane is painstakingly cultivated in a pesticide-free environment, then aged and hand-selected.

This is a surprisingly soft reed that has a very short modeled edge from the base. I play on a Larry Combs series mouthpiece and the two do not gel well together. Response on the reed is rather muddy and slow and I am unable to achieve the brightness out of the reed that I want from other brands in its price range. As is the case with all reeds though you need to find the right one for your embouchure and mouthpiece.
